Has anyone done this in south Louisiana? I just peeled one and someone said to replant it in a pot.

Yes. I've grown a few but it's been years. IIRC, you just take the crown, clean off as much fruit as possible, set it in a glass of water until the roots start growing, then plant it in soil.

I grew them in the ground in South Florida. Would just plant crown.

Yes, grew one in a pot once. Plant the crown and water it from the top. It feeds from the funnel in the top, not the roots. Takes 2 years for it to make another pineapple, so you need to be able to keep it warm in the winter.

The ones I planted in the ground in Florida made a fruit within a year. The second fruit was another story.

Growing the plant is easy.. just plant the crown. Getting it to make fruit is a whole differant story.

I've got one going now. It just got repotted and has taken off nicely. They do make fruit here. Tasty. Much like the difference between a store bought tomato picked green and shipped vs home grown vine ripened..

A girl a dated a long time back, her grandfather was the first to successfully grow a pineapple in S.LA. They still had the newspaper clippings.
