Preparing for next season and trying to find some end of the season deals looking at making some purchases soon. On the IST/IBT I saw that a few people like hunting out of a ground blind, but I personally hate hunting from the ground.

What am I missing and why do y'all prefer it or is it just a necessity for the area you are hunting?

You can pack them, good for public land. You're concealed, you can move around. Great place to get out of the rain. Some places aren't great to put ladder stands or climbers, you can have thick canopys, no trees big enough or close enough to where you want to hunt... plenty of uses.

Def takes some getting used to. Hunting public land where its thick as hell is prime areas I use them. Easy to pack in and out. If you conceal them good, its actually not bad. I will always prefer being in a tree but some areas this is the next best option.

I like them because I'm a big guy and don't like being cramped in a tree worrying if my stand is going to break. When done properly deer will no pay attention. I had a big doe so close this year I could have stuck arrow out window and touched her.

Easy to move, mosquitos can't get you, and movement is much more forgiving when animals can't see you in the blind.

I like to hunt and move a lot. It really makes that easy and hardly ever have I been busted in one versus a tree.

Used a Ameristep Doghouse this year, killed 3 out of it. Killed 1 other from tree.
I like the fact it allows you to get closer, if you can brush it in well. Allows you to see further in the brush as it starts to die in more directions. I will be buying another one for next year for sure.

I have 2 ground blinds, this year I purchased the Ameristep "The Crush" Blind. That was the one I hunted mostly out of this year. Really roomy, like the other poster said I had deer so close to me I could her them chewing the acorns and corn that was around the blind.

I cut some palmettos, took some blown down branches and piled them up around it and put some stuff on top.

Next year, instread of camo I will be wearing all black to make sure I blend into the backdrop.

Thanks for the responses, still not sold on it. I'd rather be 25' in the air if given the choice, may borrow one for a hunt see if I like it before I pick one up in the offseason.

I've set up three of them on my place. I hunt in hills so vantage points are easier to come by. I also have a 10 yo pine thicket that's perfect for them.. They def have their advantages

Now there's a positive I can get behind and hadn't thought of.

Grew up hunting with my dad in chairs behind palmetto leaves, and hated it. When my kid gets a little older thats a much better option to hide a kid and protect from mosquitos.
