Grass Advice........

Recently laid sod in my back yard. There was weeds and some grass growing so I sprayed weed killer and tilled up the yard to kill anything that was there. After tilling, I leveled the dirt, then laid the sod down. It has been about a month since I put the new sod down but since has settled and made some holes and pretty uneven spots. Also when it rains it gets very soft and when walking on it, it would sink down to my ankle almost. Since the grass has rooted in this has gotten a little better. My question is what can I use to fill the low spots/holes in? Should I gradually keep applying river sand until it levels off? The grass is growing fine, its just the holes and lawn not being level that is driving me crazy. TIA

Will it kill the grass under the sand if say a spot is 6-8 inches low? Would it be best to put 2-3 inches of sand on that spot until the grass grows on top of that then apply more? Also should I wait a certain amount of time to apply sand since its new sod?
Any suggestions on hardening the ground? Or will the grass roots eventually make it more stable?

It will harden up over time. You gotta remember we've had an unusual amount of rain this month and the loose dirt under the sod is saturated. It wont be as bad once the rain pattern gets back to normal.

It seemed highly soft the week after I laid it when it didnt rain. Was soggy just from me watering it with a sprinkler for 30 mins

That's from tilling the whole yard. You turned the dirt over and made a bunch of air pockets in the dirt. It will take time to compact back down, but it will be a lot worse when its wet.
