I am needing to do a full yard treatment for the bugs.

It looks like Talstar is the weapon of choice? I was reading more into it and read that Bifen is a cheaper cost equivalent to Talstar.

Also, I am covering 1/2ac and it would be much easier to spread granular rather than spray liquid from a pump rig. Are there downsides to the granular as far as effectiveness? If so I will just spray and pray.

Awesome, that is my number one pain in the arse.

I cover the mound in poison right now and they just pick up and move one foot over.

Granular works the same as the spray, because it needs .1" of rainfall or irrigation (IIRC) to be "activated". Bifenthrin (Bifen, Talstar, etc) is a great across the board insecticide...but if you are strictly after ants, I'd use Fipronil. But it ain't cheap

Like boot and IB said Bifenthrin is the active ingredient of many name brand insecticides. I use it because it kills a broad range of insects that armadillos target. Kill the insects and reduce the digging by armadillos and moles. It works pretty good on mole crickets, fire ants, chinch bugs and is also a termiticide.

If you can get your hands on some cyonara 9.9 it is awesome. I treat my yard every 2-3 years with it and use granular for any ants dumb enough to cross the property line.

I use the liquid Bifen to treat 1.5 acres. I have a 25gal spray rig I pull behind my mower. I mix about 18oz per 25 gal. of water. Red ants and mosquitos are history for up to 3 months. I like the liquid because in a few hours it is pet friendly and it has a 100% coverage.

I still have one bottle of Diazinon concentrate left in the garage. That shite will kill everything in your yard including all the birds No wonder the EPA banned it.

If I remember correctly, I think re-entry is safe once the spray has dried. I'll go look it up...
