Trying to get a kayak trip to GI going and had a few questions for the OB. I've done some research but have a few questions. Any help is greatly appreciated and if anyone would rather email my address is my stoms31@yahoo.com.

1. Is the temporary launch behind wildlife and fisheries still open? Cool for the general public to use?

2. Commando launching off Hwy 1: Not looking for specific spots, I'm more looking at where is it legal for me to do so? I've read a lot of the marsh is private. For example, is Lake Laurier/Bayou Laurier area private? Any general areas I could commando launch would be greatly appreciated.

3. How about launching along old hwy 1 just north of fouchon? Google earth looks like a few spots would work.

4. I know the public launch in Leeville is a solid option. If this is considered the best option I guess I should just stay in Leeville. Not necessarily dead set on GI even though we'd like to go back to the island. Opinions?

I have launched at the second bridge west side a lot. Fished all that marsh. Lots of reds back there.

Nothing temporary about it; it's here to stay. It now has a huge gravel lot with plenty of parking- just don't be a dick and block the launch.

Fishing is good out there pretty much all year, but the best times to go are Spring-Fall.

Yes, there are some areas southwest of the bridge over Bayou Laurier that people have been warned about and told to leave. Going southeast from that bridge is still an option though, as is going north.

Gotta be careful around this area- there is a bird sanctuary just north of Fourchon (old Hwy 1 as you pass Moran's heading back north to Leeville, it would be on your left) Bayou Moreau (the bayou that you see from the road that runs the length of the Hwy is fishable and navigable, but just a little further out you will see signs about the sanctuary and if you're caught back there, you will get a nice hefty fine)
Another good option off old Hwy 1 would be launching by the jack-up barges and paddling across the channel to fish the old Texaco fields- lots of oyster beds out there

Definitely an option and you can get to the old Texaco field area from launching here as well. Tons of other options coming out of here too. Be careful of current right at the launch- I've only launched here once, but I have heard that it can get pretty strong coming down Bayou Lafourche

No need to go bare arse, keep your clothes on!

We launched from Elmers last year and caught trout in the surf. Just another option, depending on when yall go.

Just a tip, with the Cam 2 project this spring, the water is bound to be dirty along Elmer's. Just a heads up. I'm going to try to fish it before that happens, if the trout get there early enough.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll just have to go catch crabs instead.
