Sweet. As a member of Palo Alto Gun Club in Donaldsonville, I can purchase a gun.

Most of those are sloppy, slacky, shot out pieces, but I suspect there are a few good ones in there.
On the other hand, if reasonable in cost, at least the lower could be built up into a nice custom pieces.
Regardless, great piece of history for those who end up with one.

Some issues that I heard of are that they are not setup to do a FFL transfer. So, if you do not live in Alabama, you cannot purchase one directly from the CMP.

Just think of all the mouth breathers that will be in line to buy those in Anniston. I would go just to see the miles of mouth breathers.

How would buying a 1911 from CMP be any different that buying a Garand from CMP?

I'll probably be there if they do that

I've heard about this for months. When are they actually going to go up for sale?

You probably know my Uncle Joe. He's one of the guys that runs the place.

We used to go drink beer and sit by the back fence of my buddy's pasture and wait for y'all bird cages to open up.

I wouldn't hold my breath on this one guys. This was attached as an amendment to the NDAA, which is great, because everyone knows the NDAA will pass. Trouble is, most of these types of "riders" get stripped out before they go to the floor for vote.
Hope I'm wrong.

Probably not substantially different in procedure. However, recall there are differences in state and federal law regarding the treatment of long guns and handguns. Those differences might complicate things.
Just spitballing - may be totally fine and exactly the same process.

To buy a handgun out of state, it must be sent to a FFL in your home state. To buy a rifle out of state, purchase directly from FFL.
Someone correct me if I am wrong.

That's about right. Only caveat is that the long gun has to be legal for you to purchase in your home state too.

It's my understanding CMP does the background check on a Garand purchase and they do ship directly to the purchaser, I've bought one from them and basically filled the "white form" out as part of the application process.
To my knowledge Long gun and hand gun purchases via internet/out of state are handled the exact same way, i.e. guns are mailed to receiving FFL in your state, you fill out white form, pay fee and the long/hand gun is yours. That might not be right, but that's the way I understand it. EDIT I don't know the law on this, but that's the way I've conducted a few transactions in the past. Might be CYA from seller IDK.
CMP's position might differ on the handguns though.
All I know is I want a few of these old worn out POS's 1911's.

I read online (you know its got to be true) that CMP was not setup to handle FFL transfers. With that being said, I have never purchased a firearm from them, so I dont know how they handle the rifles.
If they ship rifles to a FFL, then no issue with the pistols.
