Don't pull out your wallets yet. The CMP has to figure out how they are going to sell them, they can't do business like they did with the Garands. They also have to go through them and work out a grading system. Going to be a few years at least.

If the CMP is selling them, it's not a "trap". I've bought several weapons from them, never a problem.

From what I have been reading, most of the 1911's in inventory were manufactured during WWII, in other words, no later than 1945. I'd be wondering how those frames are holding up.

And it's not like there aren't other 1911 style pistols being produced. It's an entirely different situation from the M1 Garand. The 1911 has been refined a lot since WWII.

Sure, some people would like to have them just for the historical value, but I'm not sure there's that big a market for 100K pistols.

I kind of doubt there'll be many (if any) Singer or Union Switch & Signal pistols to be had.

Many were arsenal rebuilt and frames and slides were being made and put into storage long after WW2.

Almost all of them will be subject to the issues that made part the decision to move away from the 1911 to the M9.

Legally and logistically that's true but they will absolutely have more demand than they will be able to supply. Nobody knows except the DoD what pistols are available yet and our will be a while before anyone except those who work at the CMP offices know for sure.

All true.

However, I wonder what the CMP is planning on asking for these pistols. I doubt they can get $1K for a run of the mill Springfield Armory, when you can get a better commercial copy for $500-$750.

But, you never know what collectors might be willing to pay.....
