Got a Colt Python today

Hello Gentleman,
Today I ran into a Colt Python I couldn't pass up. It was made in '81, has an 8" barrel and is MINT! Never been shot. There isn't a single scuff, mark, or bluing loss anywhere. I just came here to show off.

Very fine piece of iron there.
Colt's bluing on those guns is amazing. That's the Rolex of all revolvers. Definitely a fine piece of American craftsmanship.

In this month's American Rifleman there is an article talking about Colt's snake guns and how much they have increased in value in a very short time.
It said a Colt Python new in the box is worth ~ $18k.
Lucky bastard. Congrats on a beautiful and possibly the greatest double action pistol ever made.

I know people's criteria differ, but the colt Python is by far the best DA revolver ever built by my standards. The frame and grip are perfectly sized and that action is soooooooooo nice.

If this is your first Colt V-spring revolver, let me share with you a way to use your gun and not create a cylinder turn ring.
First, understand that a properly timed Colt V-spring revolver will NOT create a turn ring on the cylinder by just cycling the action. The Colt is more precise than other double actions: The bolt only rises in the cylinder notch leads and never touches the cylinder between the notches. A cylinder ring on a properly timed gun means someone was sloppy with closing the cylinder.
A Colt cylinder also rotates clockwise, unlike a Smith which goes CCW.
When closing the cylinder of your gun, the following method should be used to avoid a cylinder ring:
-Hold the gun in your right hand, and use your thumb to hold the cylinder release back (like you would if you were opening the cylinder)
- Using your left hand, rotate the cylinder while closing so that the cylinder notch lead is directly above the bolt. Rotate the cylinder clockwise after it is in the frame to lock the bolt into the notch. I normally look into the left side of the frame window while doing this.
- Release the cylinder release forward.
The above method avoids a cylinder ring AND marks on the cylinder release. It sounds harder than it is and once you get the hang of it it becomes second nature. I only close Colts this way.

Makes me sick to think my wife's parents had me sell a python for them. Like 5 years ago, got $1200 I think. They needed the money and I didn't have the cash for them. Easy $2k gun today. Kick myself almost everyday.

My old man has one he got about 15yrs ago, you wouldn't believe me if I told you what he gave for it. I need to dig it out and take a look at it.
