I am dying to get out there and start really backpacking. I've currently been hiking Bogue Chitto with a full bag, sleeping in the primitive campsite only using stuff out of my bag, and waking up the next day hiking too. My bag can handle two nights, three if I really pushed it (but I'd have to use the lifestraw).

I know Lake Chicot is a good one, but what are some others?

Check out the Louisiana Hiking Club for a list of trails in Louisiana.

For more challenging trails, check out Clear Springs Recreational Area in the Homochitto National Forest just a little north in Mississippi. They have a large primitive camping area, and over 12 miles of hilly trails. They're considered some of the best hiking/mountain biking trails around.

You can tie the Backbone and Caroline Dorman trail together for an even longer hike. The Caroline Dorman trail ends at the Kisatchie Bayou campground.

I second the Black Creek Trail in Mississippi as a solid option. It is around 40 miles, and has several geographically distinct sections. Most people like the Wilderness Section, which I've hiked and can recommend. The trail system in the Homochitto National Forest in Mississippi is also good. Less interesting than the Black Creek perhaps, but it has loop trails which is a plus and elevation if you are in to that.

I've done them all, and Backbone was probably my favorite.

Azalea is OK, decent primitive camping area with a large clearing.
