This could also be said about Glock.
Besides the Gen4 recoil spring fiasco, there are volumes of reports on issues regarding the Glock extractors going back to the Gen3s.

I'm just getting into Glock, but I like nothing about the Gen4.

I hear the same thing about Sig "quality" issues, but at the same time, I think both companies are victims of their own dominance in the "design" segment of modern semi-auto pistol - how can you pay as much attention to quality when the quantity gets that high?

Having said that - I've fired many, many rounds through Sigs and never held one I considered "cheaply" made. I can say it about H&K, but I cannot say that about Glock,or Beretta for that matter, as the final production quality of those vary from "Saturday Night Special" to "Sig/H&Kish quality", and everything in between. I was lucky with my Gen3 Glock 23, as it is almost Sig quality - at least now.

I think that's another issue with Glocks - they just age faster due to the extensive use of polymre - that's not a direct criticism, as I have warmed to them over the years, but it is what it is.

I read somewhere that glock is supposed to be coming out with a new model or updated models the beginning of the year. I was going to probably wait till then. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this or what to expect?

I have owned a Sig P226 SSE and I wasn't impressed. It cost more than twice my G19 and didn't shoot nearly as well. HK p2000's are great guns but are no more accurate or as reliable as a G19.
I run only Glocks now because parts and mags are so plentiful. My only exception isy custom 1911 and my ruger MKIII.

Frankly, I would have Sigs in all calibers and sizes, but the cost has been the driving force for me to, at least temporarily, try Glock. Buying a blue label Glock 23, with night sights, I can get out the door for around $600, new, (pretty much true for all 9mm and .40), and it would be a little more for a .45. That's $900 or better in a SIG, though there are some decent used deals.

I stoll like my Sig SP 2022's, a 9 and a .40. Polymer frame like Glock but seem fine for casual shooters. Around $400 give or take instead of $800 plus for the steel Sigs, and shoots very well. I'm not gonna burn 10,000 rounds through one so I am happy with those.

1. Don't buy anybody's "new" gun. Most have design flaws (some minor, some major). If you're using that as a criterion, you're misguided from the get-go. Get the most proven design available (see # 4 below).

2. If you don't plan to practice, or if you're rich -- then by all means get a .40 or a .45.. You'll feel all better when you post on outdoor forums.

If you plan to practice, and you're not rich, you'll be real glad you bought a 9mm (unless you just enjoy paying double the price for practice ammo). You'll also find that you'll shoot the 9mm better than you will a .40 or a .45 (You may not shoot it better than somebody else shoots .40 or a .45, but you'll shoot it better than YOU shoot a .40 or a .45)

With a 9mm, all you gots to do (after you take some lessons and learn how to shoot) is buy some good self-defense ammo. Good SD 9mm will punch bigger holes in a BG than the .40 and .45 ammo carried by most of the members on this board. And the 9mm pistol will usually carry more rounds.

3. If you get a SIG, get the DAK trigger.

4. But if you get a Glock, it will be more reliable than any of the "new" SIGS. And probably cost less.

5. p.s. The "really good" (expands reliably to an impressive diameter, yet penetrates enough to meet the FBI test protocol)9mm loads are: Federal HST, Winchester Ranger-T and CorBon DPX (in roughly that order). Don't fall for the Hydra-Shok, the Critical Defense/Powerball/EFMJ, Golden Sabers, etc., etc., etc. Old technology = old technology.

Id go with the sig.

Both are good guns and this IS a case where you can pick which feels better. If that's the deciding factor go test em.

I really just want to stay below the .45 cal because of size.

'splain this.
I have a .45 that is thinner and as small than any Glock made

This. It's like a vehicle. My wife wanted the new style jeep charokee and it wa getting horrible reviews. We waited for the '13 and the consumer reports were great. Same with a lot of new products that need to work out a few kinks before being perfected.
