In the market for a 9mm.

Should I go for the Glock or Sig Sauer? I'm leaning towards the Glock 19, but a buddy of mine is pushing Sigs.

TIA

Can't go wrong with either really

Why a 9? Any particular reason?

Sigs are great. They are a finer weapon than a glock.

Glock shoots every time also.

9mm just has so many ammo options. It's also about portability since I'm planning on getting my CHL. I'm not a regular shooter, so it's for really when I'll need it. I know the glock is lighter also.

I am a SIG guy who carries a Glock now, so maybe I can help out - in the new market, no question Glock is the best value. It carries a little better, lighter, less pointy bits to grab on stuff, etc.

From a pure shooting standpoint, for me, it's no contest - I can shoot almost any SIG better than any Glock - however, other experiences vary and I've had Glock guys say the opposite to me.

SIG is more expensive and heavier - it also has a decocker, external hammer (typically - there are other options, now), but with that you will get the option of DA/SA, rather than striker (and Glock guys like the consistent trigger - I'm old school and like the option to go SA on the first shot.) The SIG feels a little better built and there's more quality metal (obviously).

Best advice, shoot both and go with the one that just feels the best, overall. If your choosing between a G19 and a SIG P229 - the only thing you're doing wrong is caliber (should go .40, man, and never look back.)

They're both reliable guns. I'd go the cheaper route if I were you

Thanks, I'll take note of all of that. I really just want to stay below the .45 cal because of size. A .40 is still a possible option when I try them at the range. The 9mm just makes sense to me for my uses.

I'm partial to sig basically for the reasons this guy said.

I'm a complete newb when it comes to (auto-repeating) pistols, the only ones I've fired are my brother-in-law's glock in 9mm and sig in .40.

I own a .357 revolver that I carry inna woods and shoot it at the range. I felt completely naked without a hammer on the glock.

Glock 19

best handgun on the market, imo.

I think sigs are flashier and attract more attention.

The simplicity and durability of a glock is hard to beat, though.

Sig is a nicer pistol but I can't stand how high they are in my hand. They tend to have more of a flipping recoil as opposed to straight back into your hand.

Not sure what your budget is but if you are looking at Sigs, I would consider looking at some HKs also.

The p2000 is a great firearm and can be found used at decent prices if you look.

It is a great shooting gun that is easily concealable.

Glock makes a baby .45, and Sig makes the P220 compact in an equivalent size to the G19 and SIG P228/P229, so the size of the 'platform' shouldn't take .45 off the table.

These are the 21, 22, 17, 30, 23 and 19 side-by-side.

Yep.

Also, Sig quality, according to many Sig guys, is waning. Picking up a used 228 may be a good option if you want to pursue a Sig.

This could also be said about Glock.
Besides the Gen4 recoil spring fiasco, there are volumes of reports on issues regarding the Glock extractors going back to the Gen3s.

Not saying Glock is unreliable but there are many who do not view them as beyond reproach in the reliability arena any longer.
