I know this gets beat to death sometimes but I am trying to decide on which to purchase. Got the itch to get a handgun. Prolly .40 cal. Only thing that has me hesitating on the Glock is no safety

I got an aftermarket triggerblock for cheap that works fine in mine. Stays put but pops out quick and easy to fire.
My Glock isn't as gunsexy as my HK, but boy I love it and the way it shoots.

Glocks are just as safe as any gun when handled the way they are intended.

IMO
A Ruger doesn't hold a candle to a Glock.

Or any other make. A buddy has a Springfield XD he swears by. I am leaning Glock but still doing some research.

I have a Glock 23 in .40
I love it more than any handgun I have ever had.It has never failed me and the finish looks brand new even though it has seen its share of rough treatment. Its also a very accurate gun with polygonal barrel which adds to give the bullet a little more FPS.
I picked up a .357 sig barrel for 100 bucks at a local gunshop now I have two calibers in the same gun.

I have .40s. Next one will probably be a .45.

Your best safety is your trigger finger.

Buy the ruger. When you realized you have made a mistake you can sell it and buy a glock.
I personally own 8 or 9 glock pistols and never have I had one fail. My carry gun is a glock.

About 6 months ago I bought the Springfield XDM 40. I've put about 500 rounds thru it so far and Love It! I bought the 3.8” sub-compact and it is my carry gun.
I know everyone has their own tastes and preferences, but I suggest anyone looking at the Glock at least give the XD or XDM a look.

Like the other poster stated. Your safety is your trigger finger and if you carry always make sure you carry in a holster unless you want to end up like Plaxico.
The best advice is to shoot every gun you are interested in and select what feels more comfortable for you.
You will get many strong opinions on several gun brands but what matters is what's comfortable for you.

ETA: I own a Ruger P90 and it is by far my least favorite handgun. Not very ergonomic. My H&K USP is a million times better.

I've got the P89 and I couldn't agree more. It has some sentimental value, it was my first hand gun bought about 20 years ago. But it's not pleasant to shoot.

This is the way I feel. It was the first handgun I bought when I turned 21. It doesn't recoil much and is pretty accurate but it just doesn't feel right in my hand and the safety is a little awkward.
I know this gets beat to death sometimes
thats probably the ONE comparison that hasn't been beat to death, because ruger auto loading pistols are ugly and clunky and give you the same satisfaction as holding a bag of shite (.22 cal aside). Glock, Smith M&P, HK, SIG, XD, Beretta 92 pick one of these.

Glock over Ruger. I don't see how this is a fair competition.
I have a Glock 22 with Meprolight sites. I've owned one form of Glock or another since the '80s. - 9mm, 10mm, and .40.
Glocks are tough guns and take a bunch of abuse. It is also an easy gun to break down and clean. I own more accurate pistols, but I trust the Glock to fire each and every time I pull the trigger.
The next Pistol to replace the Glock beside the bed- 1911 with Crimson Trace.

I wasn't a big fan of Glocks, until I shot one. Now I want one. I'd like to get a Glock 23 .40. I currently have a FNH FNP .40 and I love it (even more than my buddys Glock).
I'm also considering buying an Springfield Armory XDm 9mm Compact. They are nice guns too.
