Having first child in 2022 and want to get meaningful gift for Christmas to put up for him. Thought about engraved duck or turkey call or first gun? Want to get something outdoor related. Any ideas?

Besides the ones you mentioned maybe a custom knife. You can engrave it how you wish and have a fancy handle. Filet knife, skinning knife, all around utility knife, whatever you think fits your and presumably his outdoor lifestyle.

I think pocket knife is a good idea too. My pops taught me to never be without one and I can't remember a day I haven't had a pocket knife on me on any of the days I can remember in my 41 years.

My pops gave me the first one I ever had and I carried it for probably 20+ years. I still have it, but I don't carry it anymore because I couldn't stand to lose it.

Don't go to a fricking football game. I went to a Saints game probably 15 years ago and got to the ticket stand and had to throw a knife away to get in. I was honestly shocked that there were 50,000 or so people in a building and no one has a pocket knife.

They’re so many technology advancements in gear, that I wouldn’t buy him any of that now. Get something real nice for his mama. Plenty of time to buy the boy guns and bows and knifes.

Yea that is the exception….I threw away a cheap Kershaw one time and now I leave them in the truck for games or concerts…..that is the exception to the rule.

Pro tip (I’ve worked the hand held metal detector at a Nascar event)…..

If this happens again - find you a spot somewhere on the grounds - under something, on top of something, or even bury it in a shallow hole beside something. I can’t tell you how many knives we’ve had to stop at the gate. Most of the guys who had a nice one took it back to their cars, some hid them outside the fence, some just said frick it and left them with us.

Made me sick to tell some older gentleman he couldn’t have a freaking pocket knife in there.

I’d love to have had a knife from the year I was born. Wish I’d had done that for my kids too. I don’t have to have the latest of all technology.

Buy him a Browning Xbolt
Send the bolt off to browning and have his name engraved on it.
I think they charge 50US for the engraving.

well depends on what you are most into, as the likelihood that he will enjoy it too one day.

My family has a long history of playing guitars, my grandfather, father, me......so I bought a "baby martin" acoustic guitar when my son was born. I gave it to him when he turned 8. He's 15 now and better on guitar than anyone in the family.

As for guns, my theory is the best gun is one that is passed down. So I don't think I'b buy a gun specifically for him one day, unless you have anything missing from your collection that you need to add... A nice deer rifle that you pass down one day...saying I bought this the day you were born! Its mine and now is yours.

ETA - nice pocket knife a good idea too.

The day my son was born(it was a Friday morning 34 years ago)I went to Puglia's and bought him a Browning 20 gauge pump shotgun. Then I went to the liquor store(name escapes me at the moment)and bought whiskey to share with him on his 21st birthday. That night in the hospital room I sat on a chair holding him showing him in a Browning catalog what I went and bought for him that day. My wife thought I was crazy. Lol.......

With things the way they are today and if money isn't an object I'd get(and I will do this soon myself for my grandson)him or even her a nice .22 handgun. Something like a beautiful older Colt Diamondback. They don't and probably never will make them Like those.

Even getting the starter bb gun for them that will age with them and have it explained to them to NEVER get rid of whatever it may be.

Congrates to you and your wife for your first child!!!
