Have a neighbor that has a 1991 4 Winns 170 freedom with a 4 cylinder motor that has been sitting up for 7 years. It was winterized before it was stored. Anyone have a ball park figure to what it would take to get it up and running? Thanks

Kind of vague but barring any real mechanical/internal issues it should be a good weekend. New hoses, batteries, plugs, carb cleaning, etc. have some beers and take your time.

Get a bucket, add cash-all of it, and light it.

Yeah, was just wondering if it was worth putting some money into to get it going if everything else on it is solid or if it's just to old to mess with

Never know until you mess with it or open it up.

Cheap:

Check compression
Tune-up
Crank

It may or may not be worth the effort. Seeing how it's the neighbor's boat I would offer to hand him beers while he worked on it

1. If any gas was in it when stored. There will be a gooey mess at the bottom of the fuel tank. It's difficult to get out but doable.
2. Same with carb will need to be taken apart and cleaned at minimum.
Then jump the battery and see if it will crank.

If it cranks then you have to see if control cables still work, lower unit oil, ect.

My experience with a fixer upper boat........

If you dont already have the tools, time, or temper to see it through......walk away now while you have the chance.

Fresh fuel, fresh battery, can of starter fluid, turn the key, and take it from there.

91 four winns. Does it have a omc cobra or a mercruiser? I'd guess an omc. If an omc they are old, out of business, obsolete, and hard to work on. I wouldn't spend much money on one.

If it's a mercruiser, then it may be worth fooling with. Grease the gimbal bearing and inspect your u-joint bellows. Iboats forums can help you a lot with more detailed questions you may have.
