Would a small turn buckle work. Might need to make a small custom end to fit around the end and not through the hole you are trying to line up.

Hmm...

Maybe.

I tried a durn cllamp, but the ends of the strut are rounded so it kept slipping.

This irritates me b/c I can't believe I'm too dumb to not figure this out.

If you had a big zip tie you could put it around the shock, compress in a press and tighten zip tie to correct length. Maybe duct tape at the top and bottom of shock so it can't slip off. Install and cut zip tie. Sounds dangerous. Good luck.

That would do the trick.

Where would you get something like that?

Hmm...that would work. I don't have a press, but maye I couuld use blocks of wood against the spring so I could use the clamp.

Thanks TIGER2

The first thing looks like threaded rod with something custom made on the ends. Might be able to use two sockets and a piece of threaded rod, washers and bolts.

Safety glasses.

I only need about an inch of compression.

I just need it to hold for like 30 seconds, if that.

Get some paracord or whatever rope. Compress with the rope through the eyes in a loop. Tie a knot or whatever to hold it

Gas shocks?

Can you force it with your hands? Usually I am able to move the shaft with my hands into place.

Yeah, gas shocks.

I didn't think 65lbs was gonna be a big deal, but I can't hold it long enough to clip it on.

The shock extends about an inch too long.

Not sure how much room you have to work with, but I've always put the top in and then pried up on the bottom with a piece of small pipe and some blocks of wood.

I would smash it with a maul before I let it win.
