Buddy of mine recently bought some property in east Texas that has a pond and his grandkids caught a couple of fish out of it. Can you guys help ID these.

I don't mind catching them when the bass aren't biting but them son of a guns will pick up a baby brush hog before a bass knows it's in the water

Goggle Eye

I was always told they were not good eating so I would always throw them back. From my own personal experience I would always catch the most Goggle Eye from small ponds rather than lakes.

goggle eye....

in a pond on a yellow or white beetle spin is totally classic way to catch them, too...

I always found them great eating, but caught most of mine in a coolish spring fed pond. They could be a species that taste off in warmer water.

Goggle eye are one of the best eating pan fish out there. Second in my book only to white perch.
