Anybody here own one? I'm not getting the tactical version. I'm thinking about ordering this one.

I'll have trijicon night sights installed and have my local gun smith that I trust adjust the trigger and do away with the decocker.

How do they shoot? Do they handle hollow points well?

Pros? Cons?

Any input is appreciated.

This will be my truck gun. I want it to be a 16 round lead slinging sonuvabitch.

So you hate the trigger, sights, and decocker. Why are you sold on that gun then?

I've never shot the gun.

The stock trigger is a 10 pound DA/4.5 pound SA trigger. I want the SA closer to 3.

The tactical version comes with night sights, the regular version doesn't. I don't want the added length of the threaded barrel that comes with the tactical version, so I'll add better night sights to this version.

I don't want a decocker on any gun.

The fact that it's a 15+1 round 45 acp is the main reason I'm sold on this gun, plus it has a safety, which I'm fond of.

I've shot other FN pistols. They were great. The 5.7 was TOO light and the muzzle flash was crazy

Well that's disappointing. That was gong to be another purchase for myself in the future. For whatever reason, I like the 5.7X28 round.

I've heard good things about FN. The only pistols from them I've shot though are striker fired. I don't like striker pistols unless they're pocket pistols.

Why wouldn't you want the decocker?

I owned one, mine didn't like steel cased. It was a real smooth shooter. I did end up selling it though because it was a giant pistol. Now I have an HK USP 45 tactical I like it more.

Curious...
Why not a commander length 1911 with an 8 round mag if you want a .45 that size?

I have the fnp 40 great gun very similar to the x just a few years older. I find it a very well balanced gun I've had it about 7 years with no problems at all.

When I was researching to buy my .45, I think I remember some problems with the mags for the FN pistols. Can't remember if I read it or a salesperson at Lafayette Shooters told me.

I went with the HK45 and have not been disappointed.

I just got one exactly like your picture and so far I love it. For a double stacked .45 it fits my hands well. It feels a lot like a 1911 with the smallest grip insert. It is a large pistol but is very well balanced. On the range I was super pleased with accuracy. Very accurate especially in single action. Enjoy!

BTW, if interested in ordering online, Preppergunshop.com has them for $569.99. Great sales support!

Why don't you like a de- cocker, beats holding the hammer and pulling the trigger by a ways IMHO.

I had the tact version for a brief moment years ago with a trij rmr. I was underwhelmed and moved it shortly afterwards. Too big, too heavy, grip felt like a 2x4. I wanted to like it but just went back to the hk45.

You want to change the trigger pull on a gun you've never fired? Why does 1.5#'s of trigger pull that you've never experience matter in a "truck gun"? Answer: it doesn't. Change the sights if you want, leave the rest of it alone, and spend money on ammo and range time. Maybe get one of these if 4.5#'s is a little too much for you.

Lighter trigger pull=more accurate pistol.

I don't want the decocker because I will have it loaded with one in the chamber and the hammer cocked. I don't want to grab the gun and go to turn the safety off only to press it too far and decock the gun.

I do pretty well for myself, dropping an extra $50-$100 for a better trigger doesn't bother me.

I've held one, I know the handle is pretty large, but I have pretty good size hands. You're not the first person to say that the gun is really well balanced to shoot. ( that's directed at whomever made that comment, not who I'm replying to)

I don't shoot steel ammo out of any guns I have. Nothing really against it, I just prefer brass.

As far as the rmr on the tactical, I'm sure it's fun to play with, but it just seems more like a tacticool gimmick. Except for my AR, I'm not really into attachments.

Thanks for the input fellas!

I have multiple 1911s in varying sizes. They're cool and all, but why not get a gun just a little bit bigger that holds almost twice the ammo... I'm actually not on the 1911 bandwagon like a lot of people are.

Don't get wrong, I like them. I just don't have them on as high of a pedastal that a lot of people do.

It seems like here lately everyone and their mother seems to think a 1911 is the greatest gun created for any and all situations.

I don't actually feel the same way.

Like I said, I like the 1911, but I think certain situations call for different types of guns.

I know you're a 1911 fan, but I've also seen a picture of your Kimber Solo 9mm.

Obviously a 1911 is not the only gun you trust or carry.

I own the FNP 45 tactical with an EFK barrel.

Pros:
-great suppressor host
-15 +1 of 45acp
-ambidextrous controls
-fits my hand well, I have larger hands
-runs fantastic
-great home defense gun with suppressor
-very close to 1911 in grip angle and in control locations
-da give you second strike capability and so on

Cons:
-it's a large pistol, designed so of course.
-spits brass almost straight to the high 6 o'clock
-decocker takes getting used to

Overall it's a large pistol, truly a "fighting" pistol like an HK Mark23. Very fun to shoot and again, its a fantastic suppressor host.
