I've caught maybe 10 in about 11 years fishing down there and they're all just random bites. If you find something be sure to let us know because I'd love some flounder.

if you want to gig them, you'll probably need to go out to Last Island, Timbalier area.

Caught them on a hook regularly pre BP, starting to catch them again, but smallish.
Never heard of a guide targeting them.

Fished there for 15 years and I may have caught 1 a year on accident. I hear north side the island on a calm night. But I haven't made that trip yet.

I've caught a couple fishing for sheeps and drum on the rocks in Lake Boudreaux and a few here and there fishing edges of deeper canals for reds. Most if not all were pretty small if i remember correctly.

Backside of the islands is the only place I can think of you could do that. But better go quick, because the islands will be gone soon.

Caught them as far north as Boudreaux and as south as the ship channel.
Size was OK, but nothing like Little Lagoon in Gulf Shores.

Back side of the islands. You need to know the wind direction that will have the water calm behind the islands tho or the waves will muddy up the water.

We used to go on the backside of Timbalier. Running at night back to Cocodrie scares the crap out of me now though. So much shite to run into.

We'd make our own gigs that you didn't have to lift..

3.5 feet of 1/2 in stainless tubing and a stringer with the float on one end...

Insert the metal tip and a few inches of the stringer into one end of the tube and crimp it tightly. Smash down a couple of inches of the other end, and cut into a point, file sharp.

Now when you gig one, you can just slide it over the gig and onto the stringer. Never lost one.

The east end of the island looks like it lost about 300 yards in the last year... crazy stuff
