That is absolute nonsense...same mindset of allowing "shot callers" in prison. Kalifornia allowed that assinine policy in their prison system in the 80's and now they have the most violent prison gangs in the nation. You cant "negotiate" with terrorists and thats what orgaized crime is.

We have friends with the BRPD and the EBRSO, all but a small handful of the murders are criminals doing criminal things to each other. That truck driver is one of the few exceptions...

interesting comparision from the Advocate (the one on the right) to Facebook...
from FB
quote:
Smith, 6880 Cezanne Ave., was found dead on a sidewalk outside the apartment complex where records indicated he lived, Coppola said. Smith, a student at Woodlawn High School, loved to play basketball, parish officials and friends said.

Jackson said Smith, who went by “Majae,” had always been interested in sports, playing football as a child, then turning his focus to basketball as a teenager. She said he dreamed of making it to the NBA. “He was funny and he was very lovable,” Jackson said. “He would always play with my hair; he twirled it around.” She said she had just bumped into Smith this weekend in the neighborhood where he was gunned down. “I told him to keep his head up and stay in school,” Jackson said.

Do we really need to start a thread on every shooting in BR and the surrounding areas?

But this isn't thread about "every shooting in BR." It's about five shootings in BR that literally took place in a two-hour span. It's a about a trend/escalation of violence that is beyond what we are used to seeing in BR.

I've seen some undesirables on the corner of Highland and South Stadium where you hang out on Saturdays.
I'll be there Saturday. No time for my license. I'll just have to hit them o'er the head with muh flask.

Meh, this is far from the first thread about gun related violence in the area you've brought to the table.
I get this is the outdoor board where most people are gun owners, but it seems this belongs on the Poli Board or the OT. Gun violence = / = Outdoor.
quote:I'm not disagreeing that it is a lot, but it's one night, and it's also between Airline Highway and Government Street and in Scotlandville. The trend of violence in those particular areas has long been established, when it starts happening along Highland Road or in Bocage I'll be concerned.

Pretty sure BRAVE has essentially been gutted.
Brave essentially ended when Carl left. SWB used part of this to handicap Carl making it harder and harder to run the department effectively. Right before he resigned, a small tidbit made the news about paperwork not being turned in on time to collect the federal moneys portion of the BRAVE program and was in danger of being taken away. It was quickly swept under the rug.
Bottom line, BRAVE was working and its more and more apparent everyday when we turn on the local news.

Well, now that your woman is a cross-fit badass, she can prolly protect you from miscreants.

Didn't serial killer Derrick Todd Lee grab one of his victims from Bocage ?
Eta: maybe I'm remembering Briarwood and Stanford Ave. and not Bocage.

It was Briarwood.
A serial killer is an isolated incident. Violent crimes are happening in isolated areas.
Im not sure what kind of connection you are trying to make between the actions of one person, a serial killer at that, which happened 15 years ago with a sudden unprecedented upward trend in violent crimes across the entire Greater Baton Rouge Area?
I'm not saying that people shouldn't be aware, and pay attention, especially in certain areas of the city known for violent crimes, but it seems like what you're doing is fear mongering, which benefits no one except those looking to capitalize off of it.

I've probably lived in BR longer than you. And I've probably seen the crime problem grow more than you have. I talk to people quite often (and see others quoted in the Advocate) who assume that this is still the safe little town where they don't need to lock doors or remove car keys from ignition switches. Your geographical delineation of what sounds sorta like a personal "safe zone" (Bocage) sounds sorta like that.
If you don't like the thread, I guess ask mods to delete or move it to wherever makes you feel better.
