Im going to Pensacola sometime in the middle of July. Will I be able to catch fish from the beach on artificials? Please share tips, techniques, tactics and baits and such.

Also, will I need a license?

As the poster above me said...sand fleas. Get a little box sifter and throw handfuls of sand right where the surf stops. You be able to get these little guys in the sifter box. If you have any pompano in the surf they'll eat this bait.

If you have to throw artificials then throw something under a cork with as much line under it as possible while still being able to cast. Get it between sandbars for the best action.

Google "pompano rig" and get some pyramid sinkers, you should be able to get fresh shrimp somewhere. For artificials your regular assortment of plugs, spoons, and jigs/plastics will work. You could also try cracked crab or cut bait on the bottom.

Yeah this is easy to do. I've always just caught them by hand.

Just watched a vid where a guy was getting bit on a really small spoon. I had trouble finding fleas last year, and the ones I did find where the wrong kind. I'll have some spoons this summer.

Go super early in the Am. Look for birds . Try top waters, then 1/4 jigs with a bass assassin or something like that.

I visited Pensacola in late April and caught about 30ish fish from the shore. I use the pompano rig that is posted early in the thread. You can use sand fleas, but I could never really find many where I was at. I went to Gary's bait in Perdido and bought frozen shrimp. I peeled the shrimp and cut it into thirds. I would place the shrimp chunks on the two hooks and cast between the sandbar and shore (do not cast to far). A local I talked to said that the cut shrimp made it look like sand fleas. I have no clue about that. My haul in four days was 6 pompano, 13 whiting, 14 catfish and 1 stingray. I had a fun time fighting those fish.
