Fishing around Green Bay, WI

My wife and I and another couple are going to the LSU v Wisconsin game next sept. The other couple are novices. We are staying in Appleton and have an extra day on the back end. Should I just drive back to Milwaukee and do the Lake Michigan thing or is there good fishing close by Appleton?

I have heard that fishing the Mississippi River is awesome for large and small mouth bass that time of year

This area isn't know as a fishing paradise. Been couple times but we've always gone to white potato lake about an hour or so north of GB. I know most locals will fish the bay.
I'd save the yard pass and cash it in when you got back south.

Smallmouth fishing in that part of the world is suppose to be some of the best and I believe walleye as well.

Looking to get in on this as well. Let us know what you find out. I have heard the bay is awesome for smallies but am not sure what time of year they are really concentrated.
