What Fishfinder do you guys use? Im looking for something under $725. I have a buddy that is very high on hummingbird but humminbird doesn't have CHiRP. What does the OB say? TIA

Lowrance Elite and HDS units are a foolproof choice, but check the new Raymarine Dragonfly

Lowrance HDS touch screen GEN 2 for around there right now.

Big fan of the Lowrance products, HDS in particular. Mainly because there are more choices out there for satellite maping and if you run a 2006 or newer yamaha you can get engine data on your GPS if you want.
You can get the Gen 2 touch models in your price range right now.

Got a Humminbird 899 for Christmas. It's a good unit but mapping capabilities aren't that great. If you want better maps I would go with a Lowrance HDS.

lowrance hds gen 2 is a solid choice and in your price range. you can add structure scan later and like another said it has a lot of features. also you can use satellite imagery for the mapping. I make cards for them if you decide to go that route.

Hummingbird? You're killin' me Smalls!
The HDS Gen2 route is definitely the way to go right now. Although the new Elite Ti is peaking my interest...

new Elite Ti
to me its a stripped down version of the hds. I am sure it doesn't have all the features of the hds. it has the total scan which is cool but I wouldn't downgrade to it.

Ya think? I never really sat down and compared apples to apples. I guess it's the shiny new look and the marketing that got me intrigued.

its too cheap to be as good as the hds gen 2 or 3, I paid 700$ for my gen hds 7. original price was like 1300$. no way the Elite Ti is as good for way less. They come out with new models every year, and are always changing. I personally love my hds

I have the HDS 8 Gen 2 and you can get the HDS9 touch Gen 2 for less than I paid for mine. Good deals out there right now.

I like humminbird but I have a ipilot link trolling motor and they talk to each other. For freshwater if Lakemaster maps cover the lakes you fish I like their maps quite a bit. I have never used them in saltwater.

Would you say lowrance is as good or better than Raymarine?
Posted on 1/28/16 at 9:24 am to Squints 3410
it all depends on what you are doing. I would say in general lowrance. for offshore I would I have to say raymarine or simrad.
lowrance has a lot of features and most of the board uses them. ive never liked humminbirds and ive had 2 of them and replaced with lowrance.

Thinking about putting one of these on the bow of my aluminum boat.

Dont need mapping on bow and ive always liked everything about the Garmin's except the mapping.

How much do you charge for the maps?
Posted on 1/28/16 at 9:30 am to Squints 3410
id have to email you, also what you wanted would depend on price. downsouthdave and a few others use my maps.

I am currently working on an all in one coast for the whole coast and all of the basin area.

You can fit that on a 32 gig card? What is your zoom in level?
