First time St. Tammany Pier

[sticks head through door] Uh, hello?
Can, can, can I ask you all a question? [waves nervously]
I'm not an outdoorsman by any stretch. Son and I went fishing yesterday morning on the ST. Tammany Fishing pier in Slidell. It's a nice pier, shade is a good thing too.
In four hours we saw four different people actually hook something. Two lost the fish, one teenaged-girl brought in a nice keeper, and one other guy had a throwback.
Has any of you fished here and had success? For someone like me, it's ideal, but not worth it if we don't catch.
Thanks, y'all.

I've taken my son and nephew there a few times since it opened a few years ago and have caught fish each time.
Bring some fresh shrimp or live shrimp and you can catch sheepshead and flounder around the pilings. Bring a pier net so you can bring them up.
You can put out a few crab nets to run too.
All depends on tide and season as to whether you will catch specks and reds; i've seen a couple reds caught there, but haven't caught anything myself.
I wouldn't go there in the hopes of filling a cooler, but it's a nice place to bring the kids.

Thanks.
Crabs weren't running either.
I could see something sucking at the barnacles on the piers.

When were you there fishing, what were the tides doing and what bait were you using?
Those will be the three most important factors in success.

8:30 or so, a.m. until about 1:00 p.m.
Started with artificial, then switched over to shrimp someone gave us when they left.
The lake was rather quiet, indeed, that time of day on Friday.
