Yeah, those awards are not earned at all, purchased by marketing departments. Most of them are truck of the year before they even go on sale.

Hasn't Fiat been rated the most unreliable manufacturer every year...for the past 10 years?

I don't know about 10 years running, especially since Fiat didn't sell a car in the U.S. again until 2011 or 2012...but they typically don't rate high. Many of those quality surveys can be picked apart...people should take those surveys with a grain of salt. In fact, you're a pretty good example of debunking those surveys. Best form of reliability research IMO is getting on vehicle specific forums and seeing what issues are prevalent among the users there.

It's certainly a blemish...but it's not like this recall/issue was just found and they are in panic mode. I was notified by Chrysler via mail about the recall 2 years ago and had it fixed then. I think they expanded the recall to cover a couple more model years, but 75% + of owners have or should have been notified of the issue back in 2013. That's one reason why I think the NHTSA is trying to make an example of them.

I was thinking of getting a 2015 Ram with the EcoDiesel. That sucks.

There is no issue with the 2015's. The recall affected certain models built between 2008 and 2012. It's an easy fix and has been a known recall for almost 3 years now.

I thought this included 14's and 15's. Nevermind.

This pisses me off to no end and one of the reasons I intensely dislike Mary Barra.

A lifer at GM and yet she knew nothing of this, not even a whisper?
Piss-poor choice for CEO, IMO.

One thing that forced the buy backs was the fact the original fixes were not proper fixes.

If I owned one I would pay attention to the new list the article says is coming whether I had it fixed once or not.

I don't think it was that the fix was inadequate, it was that for some reason they didn't have thI parts in stock to fix them. I remember that and do remember thinking it was BS. They've know about the pinion nut issue since 2012...for some reason the parts to fix it didn't arrive at dealers until 2013 and apparently they are still hard to come by.
