Today was worth bumping this thread for a question. How long can you keep boiled peanuts? Can you keep them on WARM in slow cooker like a gas station?

Today was my best batch ever, not too salty, not too spicy

- (2) packages raw peanuts {3.5 qts by volume}
- (2 1/2) qts water until peanuts sank then (1) qt more
- (1/2 cup +) salt
- (~6 tbs) liquid crab boil

All combined in slow cooker on LOW for 7 hours (over night) to sink the peanuts. HIGH for 8 hours tasting every 2 hours... the amounts above are totaled. Really, the taste was there after 4 hours but my wife likes mushy peanuts and that took even longer. After on HIGH they sat another 4-5 on LOW.

My ole man does peanuts quite a bit and he just did a batch last weekend. They were tuff to peel. Said its late in the year to boil them. Not sure how true this is, just an FYI.

Did this a couple of weeks ago - follow this and you will be pleased:

30# sack of peanuts, large crawfish boiling pot, salt, liquid crab boil and one bag of seasoning (large Louisiana that boils a sack of crawfish)
1. Rinse peanuts thoroughly in a wash tub
2. put enough water in pot to cover all the peanuts and then some (better than half full). Bring water to a boil then add 2 cups of salt and 4 tablespoons of liquid crab boil
3. Add peanuts and bring back to a boil and then boil them for 1 hour (you don't have to have the fire wide open at this point, just enough to keep them at a rolling boil). I like to stir them every once in a while but not sure if needed - just gives me something to do.
4. After 1 hour, add bag of seasoning, 4 tablespoons of liquid boil and 5 tablespoons of salt. Boil 15 more minutes then turn fire off.
5. Let soak for 2.5 hours and then you are done. Try them at about 2 hrs and if they are done for you then go with that. Bag in gallon bags with 1 cup (or more if you like) of the water and freeze what you and your buds don't eat. This way when you want them later, pull a bag out and just put content in pot and heat up.

This is where trial and error comes in. I have found that after the 2.5 hour soak it is best to pull the basket of peanuts as they will continue to cook in the water during the bagging practice. I actually just put them in a vacuum sealed bag with the water then sealed them after a short vacuum.

Report back and let us know how you liked them.

fella at work was telling me that he freezes his boiled peanuts in gallon ziplocs....but then he uses them like you would ice cubes to cool down his pots of boiled crawfish

boiled peanuts would go good on the table mixed in with a sack of crawfish too

I'm gonna try his idea
