Anyone ever try this? Thinking about doing it as I have some cable and old power poles in the barn.

Interesting, I have to agree that it seems like a lot of work. If you do go thru with it let us know how it works.

I imagine it would be very successful if you could get it out in the open and easily seen by passing dove. shite is like crack to them. Just attach a dozen or so decoys to it and make sure they stay well so you won't have to try and get anymore up there later.

I have a buddy that has done it. Pretty sure it works out for them on their place down in Myrtle Grove. I've only duck hunted down there tho. Never seen the power line in action, but I have seen it with doves on it.

No experience, but here's an article from the USDA on using it for habitat and hunting. USDA
Do you have the equipment to do it or would you do them at shorter heights?

Two 5 gallon buckets with cemented posts. Run a rope/cord/cable across. Get dove decoys that can clip to the rope. Doesn't have to be high (granted we are on top of a hill, so it can be seen for hundreds of yards. Enough to make visible but still reach by hand. Put a few mojo doves below like they're dropping down to pick up seed.

It can be very successful.

I know people that have PVC ones that thet set up, and know some people that went as far as sinking pilings and cable with a crank they can lower.

I have a post hole digger for the tractor and a front end loader.

I'm guessing I'll tighten the cable with a come along. Then the morning of the hunt I can loosen it to the ground at dark and add some decoys and winch back up

Good idea, is it removable or do they leave them up year round?

I'd set it up about 10 feet off the ground and 25 feet from where I'm sitting with white cans to make it sporting.

Had a buddy who owned about 20 acres he would dove hunt, and tried to get him to put up about three poles with wire. He sold the property.

Works like a charm. Throw a few dekes on the line and the birds will fly right to it

Spinoff but works - get some type trough ( a long, narrow open container for animals to eat or drink out of:) Fill it with wheat and leave it out for two weeks prior to season.

Remove trough opening morning and profit, green jeans won't have a clue :)

Proven effective

Do you need them to sit on the line so they are easier to hit. Damn Aggies can't shoot either, lol.
Jk I've thought of doing the same then realized it seemed line to much work to string a line.
