If it flies, I shoot at it. My eyes aren't so good. If I have to do a mud check, I will.

Pretty sure there is empirical evidence that suggest shooting just drakes has little to no effect on the overall duck breeding population. Is it a good practice? Of course.

We try to kill drakes, but will pop a hen If things are slow. Sadly, it is getting harder for me to tell the difference on cloudy days.

We mostly hunt Woodies, which is very difficult sometimes to determine sex in flight they're so fast... But killing just drakes does make the hunt better....

Zero fricks given on drakes only for ducks that aren't Mallards and Pintails. We really try to pass on Pintail hens.

This

So I basically shoot it all since those two don't make it to my blind

I usually check out the gender when I take the duck out of my dogs mouth or when I pick it up in the boat. Normally try a take the drakes, but if less than 10 come in, we killing anything and everything.

I shoot the dumb ones, I don't discriminate on gender because I'm not sexist.

Doubt he does , drakes look better on the strap but it really does not matter. I know it is heresy, but mallards rank pretty low as far as eating goes. Teal are much better

That's a fact, they eat as much fish and shrimp as a merganser. Unless you provide them with a free meal of corn, them democrat ducks like them some gubment handouts. They seem to breed like democrats too. Which is a good thing for you guys that can't kill anything but those I guess. I'd be bummed if I left 2 birds on the table every hunt, 66% is failing whether it's dos Gris, mallard hens or boot lips. But to each his own. Think I may head over to one of those can hunts for pintails and wigeon for $20 a bird so I can post pretty drake pics too.
