I see some Romanians, too, at the less expensive end.

Yep, thanks. I thought the 7.62 x 54 might have been an error.

Sorry, just can't stand that term. A rifle is a rifle, and a scoped rifle is a scoped rifle. A trained sniper may use a rifle with a magnified optic but that doesn't necessarily make it a "sniper" rifle. Sniper's rifle would make more sense.

As far as the Dragunov, as others said, authentic ones are very expensive.

fricking weird arse rant considering the official term for the weapon includes the word "sniper."

I mean the Russian translation for SVD literally means "Sniper rifle Dragunov"

Like others have said if it's a real deal one they are pricy. Could be a PSL...if so it's not worth as much. Watch out tho because they also sell kits to turn a VEPR into a replica. I have a vepr 7.62x54r (20") that I was going to do that too. The real ones are 23 or 27" I think. They all will be stamped Russia...and for the record vepr, the last Russian AK that was skirting sanctions, have all been banned from import recently.

Any one ever heard of this? What would one be worth? 7.62 x 54 or would it be 7.62 x 56?

Dragunov site

If you're looking for a piece of cold war history, it's pretty neat. I bought my NDM-86 back in the 90s. Haven't seen one in person other than mine in years.

FYI, the Romanians did not make true dragunov but PSL which people sometimes refer to as dragunov. The Yugos are not real dragunovs either but M76.

I actually have one. There are only around 2500 that were imported to the states and their importation is banned so the value skyrocketed. In good condition with matching scope they will fetch close to $5000 in 7.62x54R

ETA I have a Norinco NDM-86

And on a thin barrel. There are some quirks for sure.

I agree that the modern media loves to throw around the terms sniper rifle and assault rifle very loosely, but they are actually legitimate terms that can be used appropriate. The dragunav is literally a sniper rifle.

I realize the term does have an actual definition and it fits here. Just more often than not, something referred to as a "sniper rifle" is just a rifle with a scope. Someone who is uninformed can look at a camouflage deer rifle and call it a sniper rifle.

I admit I'm wrong. Mostly just using this thread as a soap box to voice my disdain for the term "sniper rifle" when any scoped rifle could be characterized as such.

Carry on...

I am somewhat ingnorant on how to post a pic from my phone. Pretty cool looking gun. Has some odd, galvanized looking scope. Possibly fixed power.

Nit picky, but there was very little, if any, small arms fire exchange during the cold war. I would say it's more of a vietnam/gulf war/war in Afghanistan piece of history. I believe it was created in the early 60's.

What?

Do you mean the Dragunov specifically?

It was my favorite sniper rifle when I was playing Call of Duty. Hope this helps.

I thought that's what we were talking about. I'm not a historical war buff by any means, but my basic Louisiana education led me to believe during the cold war there weren't really any small arms firefights between Russia and western countries. I've always associated the Dragonov with Vietnam and our wars in the middle East.

IIRC the original Dragunov scope was actually based on the average height of a man who was 6' and the sniper would adjust based on his target's profile.

Yep my scope has a curve with meters marked on it in 100m increments. You place a man in the curve and range him. Not a high magnification and small diameter objective so you better have good eyes. Really cool weapon but mine is a safe queen.
