Yesterday my wife called me at work hysterical saying our dog had been struck by lightening and couldn't move. I could hear our dog howling/crying in the background. All I could think of was getting home and unfortunately putting him out of his misery.

When I got home I could smell the burnt hair and he wasn't moving. After a few minutes he was able to hobble around and jump in the back of my car. Took him to the vet and in fifteen minutes he was back to normal. The bolt grazed his back side and didn't do too much damage. He has a limp this morning but seems to be in good spirits. Damn lucky dog.

I have to say, this is the first time I've ever heard of this

Glad he's ok and getting back to normal. Is he eating?

Thanks. Vet said this is the first time she's ever seen a dog survive a lightening strike. Obviously it wasn't a direct hit but still got him pretty good.

He's eating great. Vet did an EKG and said his heart sounded good and no fluid in lungs.

Most 4 legged animals don't fare too well with lightning. He is lucky as shite.

Well, that'll make a cool story for the rest of your life.

I wonder what humans ever did to deserve dogs?

Glad he's okay. My poor dog shakes every time it rains now just because he heard some loud thunder nearby once when we were in the yard. Your poor dog is going to PTSD! That is definitely worthy of some kind of cool name change - or at least a nickname for the little guy.

Unreal! Glad he's going to be OK.

Too bad he can't talk. You'd probably get invited to the morning network news shows. Might get that last feel good story on the 5:30 network news.
