Dock options

Any suggestions for a simple dock option to place on the bank to launch a canoe/kayak into a lake (in my backyard)
We are planning a more formal dock in the future, but in the meantime I am looking for a simple option for access. The bank is raised approx 6 to 8 inches from the water. Just trying to make sure we can get in and out of the water safely. Appreciate any suggestion/recs.

Something like this, built with 55 gal drums and some deck boards would be nice.

post a picture and you'll get better answers...offhand I'd say go with a floating dock
piece it together however you like

Couple rails running from the bank to the water. Either 2x4s on edge or some pvc.
