As a father of three children, I can assure you that something in your past relationship has triggered this behavior. Perhaps it is not justified, or perhaps you've gotten better. In any event, we've given you some good suggestions, in between the abuse.
1. Buy your own
2. Borrow from somebody else
3. Rent
Sorry for being somewhat of a dick earlier. I'm still siding with your dad, but I wish you the best of luck with it.

I don't trust people with my stuff. I loaned out some books to someone I thought I could trust once. Never saw them again. Now, IF I let someone borrow something, they'd better use it and get it right back to me, or I'm going to start asking for it.
