So when a dog is a 1/2 mile or more away, you just blow him kisses, right?

And most people use the secondary non electrical corrections 99% of the time

People have been traveling the world for centuries by foot, so I guess you should just give up your car as well.

Or perhaps you should be a responsible owner and not let your dog get a 1/2 mile out?

People have been doing everything from hunting, tracking, going into combat, etc., with dogs for thousands of years and they somehow managed it without shocking the dog.

I guess instead of learning how to properly train a dog you can just put something around its neck to shock the hell out of it because you're incompetent?

No, and I'll admit that perhaps a shock collar could be used in such circumstances, although I don't think they would be necessary. My main point refers to using them as a primary form of training. I have family and friends that hunt with dogs and haven't had to use them, but I don't have firsthand experience in such situations, I admit.

Some dogs natural instincts is to hunt at these distances and further. I will put you down as the not informed for hunting dogs...

And that can be accomplished without the use of shock collars, so forgive me if I don't bow to your wisdom.

We lost a GSP at the deer camp earlier this year when it wandered off. It was found 15 miles away and had been killed by a car. It was the only dog without an electronic collar. We weren't hunting or anything. Just hanging around the back porch. The other dogs knew their limits and would stay within sight. This dog would take off and explore. You weren't going to catch it once it left. It was a pretty good dog that always came back, but this time it got lost and couldn't find is way back. Im going to keep the collar on my dog just in case. I've shocked myself with it on the setting I use and is not really that bad. Doesn't really even hurt. It stays on vibrate most of the time anyway unless it's a possible dangerous situation for the dog.

People that are not familiar with collars don't understand that there are variable settings and most dogs respond with just enough juice to make your arm twitch.

Absolutely. Mine is on for every hunt and training session. Biggest problem is shocking a dog that doesn't know what he did wrong.

I use sportdog tek 1.0 for my coonhound. Only have it on her when hunting. It was definitely worth the money because it also doubles as GPS

do you not think an e collar is discipline. Please tell use poor trainers what discipline you use toe hitch? News paper let me guess your one of these old bird dog men who snake breaks his dog by throwing a few snakes in a barrel with his dog and some rocks & rolling it down a hill.

My dog jumps a buck grouse hunting in south dak the dogs prey drive flips on I yell no! nick her with the remote ( hand of god) boom stops dead in her tracks & sits down.

I don't have live deer to train my dog on so that was a teachable moment.
