If I went hunting with my MIL there might have been a "hunting accident" lol

As hard as it is... you did the right thing. Any time I take someone hunting like that, I kind of already have to concede in my mind that I am not going to get to shoot that monster that walks out while they are on their first hunt.

The same situation happened to a friend of mine, sitting with his 12-yo son. The Deer Of A Lifetime comes out. The dad takes the .243 away from the kid and hammers a 165" buck at 125 yards. Mounts it and hangs it in his office.

To this day, (15 years later) whenever we see the father and son together, I ask the kid if he has recovered from the black eye his father gave him when he elbowed him out of the way.

Or, has he ever gotten that chipped tooth fixed from where your dad yanked the gun out from under your chin?

Too bad you never even saw that big buck, since you were laying on the floor of the stand after your dad knocked you down.

It never ends. It will never end. If he dies before me, I will tell that story at his funeral.

The safe bet is to sit on your hands and let them take the shot.

Did I do the right thing? Re:big buck
My mother in law has got into hunting so I took her her her 2nd hunt ever this afternoon. About 4:30 a huge 10pt walks out on powerline, biggest deer I've seen in woods in 25 years of hunting. I let her take the shot, her first ever...she missed. Now I can't sleep thinking should I have went ahead and taken the buck, or was that the nice thing to do? Thought it would be cool for her first ever to be a monster buck.

Holy shite let me comprehend all of this.

You guys allowed your mother n law to "get into hunting"? What the frick is this about? Who's home mopping the floors or making dinners for the week? How does she behave herself when he camp whores come over? Does she not understand her husband started hunting to get away from her?

You actually hunted with her in a box stand? Was it tough to not have your jerkoff session? Did you have that 7:00 morning wood rush? It's natural and we can't stop it from happening.

Its the nice thing to do to let her take the shot, but we're only nice to women when we're trying to get in their fricking pants. What the hell you've been hunting for all this time to let some walk up novice shoot your buck you've earned.

You took your MIL hunting, with the intent of actually hunting?

No way I'd ever voluntarily do anything alone with my MIL. Of course hunting with her would be ridiculous anyway as she absolutely NEVER shuts up.

You did the right thing. Can't say whether I would've made the same call, but karma man.

I can't even imagine sitting in a stand with my MIL for 4 hours. Might turn the gun on myself.

When someone hunts with me trying to shoot their first deer I tell them exactly what the guy told me that let me shoot my first deer. "You're shooting unless a big boy walks out then I'm shooting him"

I think that's fine because you tell them in advance. If it were my future son or a nephew or something I'd let them shoot it.

When I was 13 and my cousin was 10, we were sitting together with only my .243. We had a deal that if a 6 point came out he got to shoot, a 7 point I got to shoot, 8 point he shoots, etc. An 8 point came out at dark and my cousin had my gun in his hands. I asked him to give me the gun so I could "count the points". As soon as he handed me my gun, the buck just slightly picked his head up, but I said "he's running" and I shot it. I kind of felt bad because my cousin had never shot anything above a 4 point, but he got over it and my uncles still give him a hard time about it 20 years later
