Older headline so I searched and didn't see anything posted. Not sure of the validity of the topic but found multiple websites with similar stories. But it looks like they are having to close some of their Field and Stream stores thanks to their very smart business practices involving firearms! Enjoy

Dick's starting to go soft

This is yet another excellent example of why you should never let your political views influence your business decisions

It’s really funny that these successful businesses think it’s the outraged and vocal minority that keep their businesses afloat, when it’s really the silent majority. They let a bunch of loud mouth idiots dictate their business practices and it always backfires.

I’ve been to the Lafayette store once. It was very underwhelming. No better than Academy. Would not be sad if they closed.

The decision makers for these large corporations live in a bubble. They're not in the same universe as you or I.

Dicks shows revenue growth of almost 10 percent.

I buy shite at Dicks all the time. I buy stuff at tons of stores that don’t sell guns.

We like people to stand in principle. Unless that principle is different than ours. Then we must hate them.

I stopped going to Dicks (Oxford, Ms) because their ammo prices were no better than the locally owned store down the road, they had 3 racks of hunting clothes in October and what they had was stupidly priced and in an area that is known nationally for its crappie fishing (Grenada, Sardis,Enid) they had virtually no crappie gear.

Just poor management choices all around.

Are you cool with your money going towards this?

Who said anything about hate. If a companies principles run counter to mine then I just protest with my checkbook. I don’t have the time or energy to hate

That was my biggest issue. Not that restricting their sales on firearms wasn't an issue but to go so much further than just saying "we're no longer selling guns", they flat out announced to the world that they were going to hire firms to trample on every citizen's rights!

I was a pretty frequent visitor to the new Dicks in Slidell when it opened...

Now I could care less if that store becomes the Fremaux Center's first empty shell of a building.

Ok fine

Revenue growth for Dicks is consistently 7-9 percent. As it was since they stopped selling firearms.

No different than the Nike ban, the NFL ban, the Gillette ban. The folks that get all worked up and act as if they are shutting down a company are generally sky screaming.

Good companies are not going to be affected by small groups of people that are outraged

Dicks is closing a few stores. So will Wal Mart, Target and on and on. Those companies aren’t shutting the doors and neither is Dicks.

If and when they eventually do close the shop it will not be because they quit selling guns

Did you read the article?

quote:

CEO Edward Stack explained that the 3.9 percent decline in the company’s sales during the third quarter could be partially attributed to its ban on the sale of assault-style rifles and on the sale of all firearms to customers under 21 years old

The CEO of the company is saying they were affected by the decision.

Yes.

He stopped selling the most expensive items in his store. He had fewer things to sell. Of course his revenue will decline.

If you sell lemonade and cookies. If you stop selling cookies you will have less revenue.

It doesn’t mean fewer folks are buying lemonade.

2018 Dicks sold more than 2017 Dicks.

This was in spite of not selling firearms. I don’t know their inventory costs or any other headwinds faxing Dicks. But folks boycotting them is not a problem
