Fwiw, I'm not to far from you. We hunt in Henderson county. This season has been slow so far. Maybe we could pair up for hunts on each other's property to give you a primer on how we do it.
Yeah, That sounds great and would be much appreciated

Start pouring sweet potatoes in corn in it. Don't hunt it, but see if anything shows up. Surely Woodrow will make an appearance.

i can help you but....
1. pics are no help - need topo of and satellite of area.
2. damning a creek bottom - is generally not legal without a slew of paperwork -
3. if ducks are not in the area and not flying over the area - anything you do - simply does not matter.

Drain in spring, plant dwarf corn, flood, profit.

Your project may be a Corps of Engineers violation. You cant affect hydrology (section 10- waters of the us) or wetlands (section 404). So be very weary.
Do a search for green tree reservoirs to possibly get some ideas on habitat control.

Ok I'll check into that immediately. Haven't really done anything yet, so I'll hold off. However, the creek does originate on my property and would still have the same amount of water going downstream so I didn't foresee any problem.

Don't bait if you are planning on hunting this season. Get corps of engineers involved with the blocking of the creek. And take your email down I sent you mail.

What this guy said.
Fixing up a duck hunting is nothing like fixing up a deer hunting spot. It may just not be worth your time if you are not in right area.

If you don't have birds in your area it won't help worth a flip. We have 2500 acres of rice and hardly see any ducks. Just a little out of the flyway.

Ok. I looked up hunting reports in the area on DU and it appears as thought this is a pretty good county for ducks. Several have posted lots of activity on a lake that's about 20 miles from my property; are these flyways more narrow than that, or is countywide a good indicator?

Flyways tend to be narrow unfortunatly. A county can produce good numbers overall and your duck hole could be the Bermuda triangle for ducks.
Ducks tend to migrate creeks, rivers and bayous to different food sources the majority of the time. There are exceptions however. I have a friend with a 30-40 acre beaved pond in Jacksonville, Tx that is a killer spot. It's an anomaly duck hole and very productive.
I have a similar beaver pond 5 miles off the Mississippi River and on a nice creek. I have killed under 20 ducks on it over many years. So my point is that having a good spot depends on many different variables and sometimes there is no predicting why ducks wang to be in a certain spot.

Yep. Buddy farms 3 miles away and kills a ton more than we do

I'm not sure if these will suffice, but if not I can try to find some more. The American Timber & Steel plant is inside our property at the front entrance. The whole tract is in the shape of NY state with the grey dot in the middle and the GPS coordinates. The first of each set are images of the property and the second ones are zoomed out. There's a lake called Naconiche nearby where people say it's a wood duck haven along with widgeon and gadwall; not sure if that is good or bad for me.

Oh shite, you may know some of my kin. Is the spot in Jacksonville a late season mallard and woody hole?
Posted on 11/30/15 at 2:03 am to GREENHEAD22
I've only had the pleasure of hunting the spot once. To say the least, it was a hunt to remember with a mixed bag limit. However, Ive heard the epic stories of what the beaver pond has produced over the years. Not sure if it's the same pond.

You would have to be in the heart of a damn good flyway to consistently kill ducks on that small of a pothole. Even then just one or two mornings a week and 3 hunters max. Honestly It looks like a roost hole for a few wood and gray ducks. Maybe a straggling pair of greenheads here and there. Not trying to be a dick, just calling it as I see it with 20yrs of killing ducks under my belt. Wish you the best tho baw
