Called the “Gun Violence Prevention and Safe Communities Act," the bill sponsored by William Pascrell, D-N.J., and Danny Davis, D-Ill., would nearly double the current 11 percent tax on handguns, while raising the levy on bullets and cartridges from 11 percent to 50 percent.

Luckily there is someone on our side:
quote:

What the anti-gun interests can’t ban, they want to tax it out of existence,” Alan Gottlieb, chairman for the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, told FoxNews.com. “It’s nothing more than confiscatory taxation.

Everyone knows that the way to slow gun use is to tax ammo to the point that people can't afford to buy it. I remember a few years ago a gunfight between gangs in Baton Rouge where more than a hundred rounds were fired in about fifteen minutes. That wouldn't happen at $15 dollars a shot. The low cost of ammo is the Achilles Heel of gun ownership and use.

Truth!

So the current 11% goes to the interior dept, distributed the States based on how many hunting and fishing licenses each sells. Pays for all sorts of wildlife programs.as long as the money stay directed thusly, no need to worry.

It would not stay in the Interior Dept, per the article:
quote:

The lawmakers say the bill would generate $600 million per year, which would be used to fund law-enforcement and gun violence prevention.

Because Virginia believes in freedom. Plus it's way better than Maryland. I was born in PA and that and Vermont are the only other Staes I would live in in the mid-Atlantic/new eng,and area

Yall are so lucky youre not going through what we are going through here in Maryland... Complete ban on all assault rifles on 10/1, mag limit capacity to 10rds or less, a handgun qualification license to buy a handgun which includes fingerprinting, and currently a 120 day wait to take possession of your AR, AK or handgun. Btw, less than 1% of the general population are issued CCW permits. Yet, Viriginia is right across the river and is one of the biggest pro-2A states in the United States.

What pisses me off is that they vote for this kind of stupidity and when everything goes to hell, they complain and then move to a state without such restrictions and try to push the same stupidity which caused them to move in the first place.

Democrats are no better than locusts.
