25 and red.

Steady 5-10 South wind , 5-6 inches of water visibility, water temp 66. Not much tide in the morning, rising in the afternoon.
Went to the twin pipeline area (lake john , 4 horse, round lake, pintail flat) . Slow all morning with only a few trout and a red. Mid afternoon I found them about 10 feet off of the bank on the lee side. Moved up and down the same bank (between 10-100 feet off) and put 25 in the box. 5 trout over 16 were all caught close to the bank in different spots. The smaller ones were all caught farther off the bank. Spartacus (black ) matrix shad with chartreuse tail and berkley gulp new penny shrimp 6' inches under a cork.
EDIT- Was in 6-7 ' of water .

Uh, excuse me sir, but that's a vortex shad, not a matrix. Only vortex has the different color tail.

Seriously though, thanks for the report I was debating making Delacroix trip. And the black/chartreuse vortex is my go to bait.

Hell of a catch. Way to get it done. One question: why only 6 inches under a popping cork? I've gone 16-18 in shallow ponds for reds but that's about as short a leader as I've ever used.

I was fishing it deeper and I kept missing strikes. I fished it shallower and started hooking them. Not sure why but I was'nt going to mess with what was working. I have no idea why the shorter leader was working>

Probably because the fish could only see it that black lure in that shallow of water.

Cloudy days or muddy water, you need brighter colored lures. Sunny days and clear water use more natural or clear lures.

That's a good point. I got zero strikes tight lining the same bait. I guess the water was clearer higher in the water column. Was in about 6-7 feet .

You gotta go with what works. I was just curious. Way to adapt and put some fish in the boat.
