Need to be getting them ready right around now. Maybe plant in the next few weeks, depending on the weather. We are heading to spray, bush hog, etc this weekend. Probably going to kill a squirrel or two as well before the late football games.

We usually don't plant till at least the very end of September and usually the first weekend of squirrel season. You plant too early you usually end up having to wait out the end of the summer dryness and if it does rain your plants won't be the nice tender sprouts they really like when season starts.

I hunt pretty close to Centerville, and we usually plant around the first or second week of October. Deer usually won't touch them until all the acorns are eaten up and the browse dies, and that's usually not until the first of December or so.

Discalaimer: According to a bunch of folks in the dog "rescue" thread yesterday I'm an idiot, so take this into consideration when evaluating the merit of my response.

I have a little spot I'd like to make a food plot out of, but it's next to impossible to get any equipment in there without getting a dozer to come in and make a trail first. What do ya'll suggest I do. The plot would only be about 1/4 acre in size.

+1 on Mid October. I usually bush hog and spray in late September right after teal season then come back and disc and plant. Any earlier and they start getting tall and non tender when the deer really want them in December and beyond.

This...I live about 15 minutes east of Vines.I usually plant around the 15th of Oct.The fronts start moving through a little by then and you can catch a rain if you watch it.The army worms tend to be less of an issue by then as well.My luck hasnt been good planting in Sept. Its too expensive to plant and then it doesnt rain for 2-3 weeks.
