Sounds like you solved your issue but the correct fix is to have an electrician come out and run a dedicated freezer outlet. Assuming your main panel is in the garage it is relatively easy process.

And now the real problem comes out. Pop should update the OP with all pertinent information. Probably got some Anal Ease in the outlet and shorted out the sybian

the GFI outlet is probably shedding tears of laughter looking at that thing and it keeps shorting itself.

The Ground Fault interrupter is probably in series with the outlet that the freezer is on. Never ever hook a fridge or freezer to a GFCI.

hit the test button on the GFI and see if the power on the outlet goes out, if it does, you will need to either dump the gfi or wire the outlet so it doens't get gf protection.

(you can do this by moving the wires up on the gfi.

defrost cycle on a fridge/freezer will trip a gfi.

yeah, I have every outlet I put an extension cord in on gfi and even have three portable gfi extension cords for the non protected outlets.

I shock myself all the time, but it only takes that one time to stop your heart.
