I noticed this spring that there was a lot more patches than last year. All I've read is that u have 2 choices: dig it up or spray it with poison. I tried the poison. Only did about 1/2 of what was there cause I didn't wanna end up with a whole yard of dead grass. Ended up with big dead spots of course. After it died, I cleaned out the dead grass, added a lil soil & spread seed. But now I can see new sprouts of Dallis grass popping up before my seeds are sprouting, bout to give it up. Any suggestions?

I usually just dig it out. It's really the only thing I've found to work worth a damn.

If you have St. Augustine, keep your grass cut and it starts to choke it out. If you never let the seed stalks grow and produce, then it will quit spreading and re-growing. But you have to cut grass like every 3 days in the summer for that to work. Another thing is to never cut the seed stalks. You will just spread the seeds around your yard and make the problem worse. I always went and pulled them by hand before cutting.

This is the way, but I have to ask, seed? What kind of grass is the lawn, and what kind of seed are you laying down?

When I get Dallis in my St. Aug, I use roundup as carefully as i can. Sure, I kill a little bit of turf, but it comes back so fast I hardly notice.

My yard is prolly 70% Bermuda, 30% centipede. Bermuda is slowly overtaking it & I like the way it looks so I threw Bermuda seed in the dead spots.

Pulling it by hand? Shiiiiiit, some of them things got roots like an oak tree, lol. Think I'm gonna try a shovel. Do a little bit at a time. But yall are right, cutting it is what's spreading it. The 2 long stretches when it rained everyday for a couple weeks gave it time to get tall. I cut it when I could but it was pretty bad

If you like the Bermuda, your answer is easy - MSMA and Certainty. Will knock out the Dallis, but may take several applications. I will post a pic of the directions on the label when I get to my pesticide cabinet in a few....

I only pull the seed stalk, not the whole patch of grass. That way it didn't spread when I cut the grass. I didn't have that much except for one little area, so it didn't take too long.

Yes, Certainty is a nutsedge herbicide that is also labeled for Dallisgrass (eta: when mixed with MSMA)

You mean to tell me, this stuff gets rid of nutsedge and dallisgrass, but won't harm my centipede?

ETA: How often do you have to use it? It's $100 for 1.25oz!!

The Certainty will kill nutsedge and is safe on Centipede. When mixed with MSMA to tackle the Dallis grass, your Centipede will be toast. OP said he preferred the Bermuda, so this mixture is best for him.
