Damn, Wasn't there another high-fence operation in Ms that was busted for possibly importing cwd deer from Pennsylvania?

There's a reason MS made the importation of deer illegal. Hope these high-fence operation people get the book thrown at them in addition to public shaming.

"There has never been a case of CWD documented in humans."

"No deer have tested positive for CWD in Mississippi."

Freaking out over this at this point is like my mother freaking out over some silly apocalyptic prediction from Facebook or the gang initiation chain emails.

yet CWD has shown up on its own with no link to high fences in places like Wisconsin, Missouri, and Arkansas.
As with a lot of things, the misinformation of CWD creates more panic than CWD itself.

Like or dislike high fences, the only reason CWD has been discovered there more often than the wild is that those ranch owners are forced to test their herd while the wild population has not been subject to near as much testing.

A neighboring property owner to a place I hunt has one. I hate it because he's a dick. If it was mine, I'd love it.

I don't like telling people what they can and cannot do on their own property, within reason. In the grand scheme of things, it's a harmless activity. I'd much rather see them put a ban on moving live hogs and coyotes in Louisiana.

I agree with this up until those activities affect the property of others.

I don't think anyone is freaking out about that.

You'd rather wait for it to be here and then "freak out" about it? I'd rather address the faulty wiring than wait for my house to catch fire and then freak out. CWD is obviously very real and the only thing keeping MS from being an infected is distance. Then these dumbfricks go and subvert that distance by bringing them here.

I don't see this as a highfence vs no fence issue like some here. I have no problem with properly high-fenced native deer populations that are probably monitored way better than normal free ranging deer. However the oversight by the state (paid for by highfence fees) needs to be stepped up over these types of operation and the penalties need to be increased. Not talking just monetary, I'd like to see serious jail time being a consequence. These two past incidents involving high fence and CWD have come to light as result of deer escaping. Makes me wonder just how many other operations have illegally imported deer already in MS.

By law, in Louisiana, deer are a state-owned resource. Because you and I pay taxes, we are each essentially "owners" of deer across the state, on both public and private land. If I shoot a deer legally, that could have walked to your property, I affected the deer herd on your property. Where is the line going to drawn?

If what you are saying is that you are against fences because the spreading of disease is most common in high-density herds (like pens) and may affect wild herds, that is a valid argument. A blanket statement that fences affect other landowners and therefore should be banned is silly.

For the record, I don't hunt in a fence, and have one near my property that has screwed up deer movement significantly. I hate that fence and wish it wasn't there. I also wish my neighbor didn't have an ugly fountain in his lake that flashes different color lights at night. Neither actually hurts me or my property though.

Do you think a grown man should go to jail for smoking pot on his back porch? Serious question.

Maybe there is a simple answer to my question ive never heard but:

The state says that the deer on my property at this moment belong to the state. They are not mine to do what I want with. So how is it possible for a person to put up a high fence and basically trap all of the deer there and then the land owner can claim ownership to them?

Maybe there is more to it than I know but just doesn't seem right. Seems like if a person was to high fence, they would be required to make sure none of the states / publics resources are trapped on the land. If they wanted to fill their property with deer then they would have to buy deer from somewhere, have them go through a quarantine and examination and then allowed to be populated with these animals.

Then the issue becomes how a fence affects neighbors and maybe that's a whole different discussion.
