Interesting Article...

Cummins and Nissan

The partnership with Nissan on the V8 program benefits not only Cummins employees, but also our community,” said Jeff Caldwell, General Manager of Cummins’ pickup truck business, who started his 31-year career with Cummins at CEP. “The innovative and lightweight design of the 5.0L V8 Turbo Diesel is a perfect fit for the customer who wants V8 performance with diesel efficiency. It broadens Cummins’ range of products and provides a new clean diesel option for our customers.”

The transmission and rear axle is barely adequate for the 5.6, turbo diesel isn't going to help them gain from what miserable marketshare they currently have in the fullsize truck market.

Nissan almost isn't a player at all in the light truck market.

This is a bold move and gives them relevance.
GM and Ford are fine; Nissan's market share will come from Toyota and Ram.

The article says it will be a light weight diesel engine. Guess we will find out how heavy it is once more specs are released.

I had an 05 titan, and that thing was a beast. I love my 09 gmc, but damn if my titan wouldn't run circle around it.

Yeah I had an 04 titan 4x4 and that son of a biatch would jump of the line. I pulled out a friend of mine with his Z71 with buckshots while I was running open country ATs. Everyone was ragging me about my truck until that day.

I think Nissan will try to make a statement with this truck and probably over engineer the shite out of it. They are talking 500+ lb-ft torque out of this motor, that is nearing HD territory. I doubt they carry over the trans and rear axle (for their sake I hope they don't). I also have a feeling this truck will be ugly

Yeah, I've had to put a blackbear tune in my sierra to get the same throttle response and power that my titan had from the lot.

Only reason I got rid of it was b/c I wanted a CC.

And that new body style in 08 is .

I'd probably buy the Titan, swap the cummins into my f150, and then burn the Titan

Shame on Toyota for not moving forward with diesel in their Tundras. They could have been out in front. Now competing vs a cummins diesel will not be easy.

My favorite would be an F250 with a cummins in it.

Don't hold me to it. I'm guessing it a weight thing. The article mentions the motor is light weight. Perfect for a non HD truck. I know for a fact the straight six in the Rams are big and weigh a ton..

Doubt it. Unless you meant it in a different way than I understood. Toyota threw the white flag...even if they would have put a diesel in the updates tundra it still wouldn't be enough to be considered the best. Rest of the truck is too lackluster.

Someone help me out, but wasn't GM considering putting a small liter diesel in its Canyon and Colorado platforms a year or so back? It was like a 2.2 or something like that.
