Criminal Bk Gd Check for CC

Years ago I was in a truck and we got arrested for trying to take a street sign. Sounds minor but it was "Attempted Theft".

Well, worked out a deal that we had a yr. probation and if we didn't get in trouble it would be expunged.

Here's my question. If I report it on the application, how do I get "true copies of documentation to prove disposition"?

My other question is DO I need to report it? I feel like I do but part of the deal was that it wouldn't show up on my record. I have no problem disclosing it but is it meaningless to do so? It was back in 1985 or '86.

And if so, am I wasting my time applying if I have ANY "arrest"?

Thanks in adance for any help. I started to just call the State Police and ask them but figured someone here may know.

Obviously WV may be different, but as long as it's not a felony or domestic violence, you're good

Report it. They won't turn you down for it but if they find it and you didn't report it they'll want to know why.

it wasnt a violent crime or felony, you are good to go

if it was expunged(assuming you were a youth) why would you report it

That's what I was thinking.

That's what I was hoping.

Cause the app says to and I have a thing about being dishonest. I just don't know what "Expunged" means, in its truest sense. If it really is "off" and there's no need, I agree. If it's "off the record" but still "there", I don't want to risk something minor preventing me.

Even still, I don't have any "certified true documents to prove disposition" nor do I know how to start getting them.

It can still be found. I had a non violent crime on my record that had been expunged and reported it. Got my permit quickly. You will need to obtain a copy of your court decision and send it in. It's just a little extra insurance that your process will go smooth. Takes very little time and doesn't cost anything. People such as employers can't see it on your record but the state of Louisiana don't forget.

Thank you.

What's the first step in obtaining a copy of the court decision? I don't even remember the year.

I had almost identical thing around same time(theft of city property for stealing a 55gal drum from the park). Had a verbal agreement with DA same as yours, it'll go away in a year but if it happens again before a year it'll be my second offense and I'll be charged for both. I would not mention it. They told you the charges were dropped and you forgot about it. It was almost thirty years ago and meaningless. The paper work is in a box in a warehouse somewhere if they were even kept.

Go to the court house in the arresting parish/county. Go to records division and ask if they have any arrest records for you. If they don't, get something saying that in writing.

Good advice -- and as was said, you do need to report it.

If you don't report it, and they find it, you'll never get a permit.

Report it, for damned sure.

Expunged doesn't mean what most of us think it means.

I work with LE records management fwiw.

Same arrangement but mine was a judge my father had gone to law school with.

Thanks and I have. A few posts into this thread it hit me square tween the eyes so I'd sent an email to the LSP CC Permit Dep't and asked how to handle it- in essence, "reporting" it.

FWIW, my dad got arrested for battery on a police officer when he was in college and he has his CCW.

I got a full write-up when I was gonna do it a while back. Most of my stuff wasn't on my record.
