My oldest brother used to be real big into coon hunting when I was younger. Anyone still do this?

I mean, I shoot them with my pellet gun when they come into my back yard. Usually while enjoying a cigar and an adult beverage. Does that count?

I trapped them for awhile and tried to tan some of the pelts. It's a lot of work though.

yep...run two mountain curs and we ride around in the polaris and drink whiskey until they tree one ..that's hunting, right?

Downshift does.
I shoot them unless I'm deer hunting.

Yeah I remember him going to Tennessee to buy one and I can't remember the exact price but it was around $2000.

Oh yeah! Clinch Mountain Coon Club is east of me about 3/4 of a mile. They have BIG crowds there on their hunts. Folks come in from NC, Ky, Tenn., Alabama, Ga., Mo., and a few other states. Love to hear the hounds running here on the mountain. I've done got too old to keep up, but I still remember...

Delta national forest in MS is great. Flat terrain and plenty of game.
Ask around. Most guys with dogs are more than happy to have company. Pitch in a 50 lb sack of Ol' Roy and you can ride in the front seat.

I have a redtick English coonhound and go as often as possible. It's my 2nd favorite type of hunting behind deer.

what you do with them after? Or do you do anything with em. Not that I care, they are a nuisance predator in my book.

I don't shoot them often. Usually just let the dog tree them a while and then leave and go try for another one.

Some nights I love it and some nights I want to shoot the dog, sell all my shite, and stay at the camp drinking and watching football with everybody else

My dad had a bad arse bluetick named Lightning when I was a kid, he bawl and tree bark would raise the hair on your neck.
Dang dog hated a freaking coon, we probably killed 400-500 with that dog.
Back in the 70's you could get $15.00 average per hide and we could kill 4-5 a night.

My GSP and Doberman hunt them whether I run them or not.
The GSP distracts it and runs around it while braking. When the coon/opossum turns his back to the doberman, BOOM, it's light out. The dobie will grab and crunch his back; then, throw it in the air. When it hits the ground, they each grab an end and tear it apart.

After I read "Where the Red Fern Grows" as a kid, I sold my beagles and went and bought a black and tan pup. I spent quite a few years following that hound and others around the woods at night. Lots of fun back then. I guess I haven't gone since the early 90's.

Some of the best memories of my childhood are hunting coons. My dad's friend had a bunch of redbones and he would take me all the time. I loved it. I still go once every other year or so, but he passed away a few years ago. I still enjoy going when I get the opportunity. It's a hell of an experience when a group of hounds gets after it in the swamp in the dark.

Some of the most fun and most miserable nights I've had were coon hunting
You definitely have to like hunting dogs more than you like killing coons to enjoy it.
