You know that's an Obama quote, right?

Yup. He effectively said gun owners weren't reasonable, and if you hunted you have nothing to worry about. Like that's what it's all about.

I didn't. I can't watch him in long enough lengths without my blood pressure ratcheting up. Pologies if I attributed it to you mistakenly.

Hmm, some might call people that get amped up en masse every couple of years for something that is never going to happen, send $ to the NRA and pay outrageous prices for useless weapons, sheep. It all depends on who is leading the flock as to who follows.

One group has a history of trying to take away rights. The other is portrayed as a group that is evil, for exercising a right. You wouldn't have people buying and lobbying, if there weren't a threat by people elected to Congress to infringe on their rights.

Pretty stupid fricking definition of "sheep", but hey, whatever gets you off.

Well yeah, except for the inconvenient fact that it has happened before. In The USA.

What can he do? You're being intellectually dishonest or you're simply ignorant.

There area my things that he, as the President, with the majority in the Senate, and recent reelection can do to enact and influence legislation.
I don't think gun control is as high on his "to do" list as many might believe because there are bigger financial issues at play.
Not only that, 4 years ago he had majority control of the house and senate and he still did nothing to curb gun rights.

You can believe the hype all you want, many of you have. I'm just trying to add an objective opinion.

The tentative agreement would further restrict New York's ban on assault weapons and limit the size of magazines to seven bullets, rather than the current 10. Other elements, pushed by Republicans, would refine a mental health law to make it easier to confine people determined to be a threat to themselves or others.

He didn't have a tragedy to exploit four years ago, and he wanted a 2nd term. He doesn't have to worry about that now. I hope that in 2 yrs, enough people are voted in to make him a lame duck President his remaining 2 yrs.

As far as not doing anything to curb gun rights, previously, it's my personal opinion, that F&F was being set up for an attempt at it down the road, when they could point to all these "untracked assault weapons" turning up in crimes. Until, it was found out, his administration is the one that put them out there.

And you think he's not actively involved in this right now?

You're in the minority on that.

Do you really think that's relevant now? OK, I was wrong about you being intellectually dishonest

Shortly after taking office, Obama was given a letter signed by many Democrats Congressmen stating that they would oppose any gun control legislation. His hands were pretty much tied at that point.

quote:

Sixty-five House Democrats wrote Attorney General Holder in mid-March, saying they “would actively oppose any effort to reinstate the 1994 ban” and predicting “a long and divisive fight” if the administration tried to push for one.

Renewing the AW Ban has always been a goal of Obama, but he's never been in a position to get it done.

Trying being the key word there.

He was using his political capital on health care.

If the House was Democrat now, would a more restrictive assault weapons ban be passed? Would the "gun show" loophole go away? Would online ammo sales be restricted?
I think so.
