The Mississippi must be the poopy one...

The pic looks like the intersection of 12 mile Bayou and the Red River on a much larger scale.

Interesting how much more sediment one has than the other...I wonder if that is due to one flowing more swiftly than the other or more due to the terrain one flows through.

Or the distance and number of tributaries one has at that point versus the other.

By that point the ol muddy has gone a long ways and also picked up the ol mo as well. A shite ton more acreage drained into it.

Interesting that the Ohio is actually the larger river at the confluence. It could very well have been called the Ohio River all the way to the gulf.

Could be. I don't know. Perhaps it is the angle of the photograph.

I have crossed those two bridges at least 250 times in my life and at that point by my naked eye observation they both seemed to be about the same distance across.

I should have added in my original post that my grandfather cut the ribbon on the Missouri side of the Mississippi River bridge. That was 80 or so years ago.

How many places in the world do two great rivers, such as these, join together to create a super river? Of course, there is the convergence of the Miss and the Red which is nearly similar to this.

Not sure what a "super river" is but there are about 30 or so notable confluences according to Wikipedia.

A term I just made up on the fly this morning. It is one of the largest rivers in the world.

Okay. The Mississippi is 15th largest in the world by discharge, second longest in the United States after the Missouri, 4th largest in world by drainage basin.

There are a lot of rivers that dump into the MS. Lot you don't think of /know of (well at least I didn't know of them)

The Illinois, Missouri, Ohio/TN all hit the MS within less than 100 miles (This is a swag).
