Any recs for some good instructors within an hour of BR? Time to renew for my wife and me.
Looking for an efficient class.
Wife and I are proficient shooters and know the laws, multiple renewals already. Always painfully slow.

Thanks all.

I renewed at FRC range in BR last time. It was super easy.

Mine expired during the start of the covid shut down, and I could get no answers on renewal. I said frick the renewal, if I use my firearm, it would have to be proven that I was concealing it prior to using it. Something that would likely easily be beaten in court, which is where I'd end up anyway in the unfortunate situation that I have to shoot someone- justifiably of course.

Do you have to take a renewal class? or just pay a fee? I thought it was just a fee?

I never got one because they had to be renewed. Hopefully around March the Constitutional Carry will be passed and we won't have to worry about these silly permits anymore.

Reciprocity to carry elsewhere.

It's a class and a fee. Even with lifetime, you still have to take refresher classes.

Hope the constitutional carry passes, but I travel a bit, the reciprocity is important to me.

This and no phone in on a Brady check are 2 big reasons I have mine.

1. Don't get lifetime permit. As was stated, you still have to take class every 5 years -- and you'll go thru background check when you purchase a firearm.

2. If you and spouse remember all the elements of the law 5 years after you took a class, y'all are 1:100,000

3. Go to Range USA. Parts of it will still be boring, but it's a good class. I would not go to Precision - new owners and new manager have very unsafe (and dirty) range.

I got too busy and let miine lapse last month I think you may have a 60 day grace period but idk ive been too busy with work and deer hunting and brushing blinds, I need to look into it. (someone may can shed light on that),

Con Carry should pass with Landry but I agree with state reciprocity. The 5 year fees plus classes are a racket for the LSP and off duty cops teaching classes after your 3rd time imo but maybe not for everyone. However, it makes it 100 times quicker to buy a gum by just giving them your license and ccp.

You have a 60 day grace period after expiration to submit renewal or you must start over like a new application. That includes attending a renewal training class

That is what I thought, I need to find a class real quick. As annoying as renewing is, the initial process is more annoying, Thank ya.

I took the class at FRC range a few weeks ago. The class was day 60 past my expiration date on my license. I renewed that day online before I left the building and had my new license in about 4-5 days.

The class at FRC range was ok. I’m sure it’s just standard material but too much information on basic handgun types.. hammer fired vs striker fired and other BS time filler items. Instructor seemed to be in his early 20’s. Made several comments about how the class needed to last longer and that we were flying through it. Ended at about 2:30p

Idiots in the class asking stupid questions like if “if I shoot someone outside in my driveway, can I drag them in my house”

They are all essentially the same and are the means to the end of getting the class done.

Just remember that you cannot carry concealed during the 60 day "grace period." All you're really avoiding is getting finger-printed again.

Precision. The range and class is fine. Instructor was fine and no issues. Efficient.
Precision started allowing people to shoot AR's on the pistol range -- and they allow these people to uncase their long guns behind the firing line. It's pretty hard to not get swept when three dudes show up together w/ AR's and uncase them on the little wooden benches.

Precision is the only range I've ever used that allows this. I'm sure there are others that I just haven't seen, but it's a basic safety rule that precision ignores so they can bring in more shooters per day. (Range USA doesn't allow this).

This, among other reasons, is why the material should be taught as part of high school curriculum.

Thanks for the heads up. I honestly rarely have time to go anywhere but work and truck gun to and from and I live in a rural area.. I know there used to be some small classes that streamlined them for renewals but that was last time 5 years ago and I wasnt able to time it with those teachers. Both classes ive done have had people ask absurd questions like that, then they shoot their however many rounds at like 10 years and barely hit the target. lol. Makes me question the entire point.

Yeah def dont cc during the grace period.

does anyone know if they do a shorter renewal class? 9 hours to hear the same stuff I already heard twice already is a bit much.

Alternatively is there a renewal class elsewhere where I can just get a refresher and take the shooting part again?

i I have to sit thru the all day thing again (again) with the same morons and their stupid questions I may just let it expire.

Livingston Parish sheriffs office has a great set up.
Class in morning, then shoot out back on their range after lunch that they provide.

They have a real nice, covered shooting area range. After class they "may" let you shoot on your own terms. I got practice with 3 of my guns.
