Just took the class at the indoor range. Wasn't impressed with instructor, but it was quick and easy in comparison to other classes I have taken. Anyone else taken it there?

I took it a couple months ago. I was happy that it was quick, but some of the people said they have never even shot a gun before. That doesn't make me feel very comfortable knowing that he will sign off for them with the little experince they got in the class. The wife seemed pretty grouchy the whole time also. They did make a lot if mondy that day. 30 people in the class, sold good bit of ammo and seen about 4 guns sold. But it's done now, just got to get my paperwork turned in.

Yeah, got the impression that it was all about making a buck. Didn't think it was very responsible

I couldn't imagine if my wife went and took that class and then got a cc permit. She has little experience with guns, but he would ok it. I would not feel comfortable with her packing a loaded weapon. Did you still only have to shoot 15-18 rounds? I know a guy that took the class from somewhere else and said they had to shoot over 200 rounds.

I took the class at LSUA with John Loomis. Had to shoot 200 rounds. Very strict on gun safety. Very informative class.

Range is on hwy 1 close to Petrus Feeds.

We were supposed to shoot 36 rounds today. I shot 50 and the guy never even looked at my target. Asked me how I did. Was done shooting in 5 min. Last class took hours to get done.

Can not express how unsatisfied I was with the class. Guy was just wrong on some laws. Horrible speaker and didn't have a very strong grasp on the law IMO.

Taking mine at shooters in bossier in November. Several friends have already taken it and they said it was long but informative and pretty good.

I got mine at the indoor range. I have no other classes to compare it to so I can only say that it was quick and easy. What laws was he wrong about? Every law that I heard about was referenced and I checked the references post lecture. He got tongue twisted on one but he got it correct before we left for the day. I will agree with your comment about not watching you shoot. I guess the instructor can see who they think knows how to use a firearm and then they don't watch if they think you are ok. I say this because my experience was identicle to yours. They didn't watch me and just asked how I did. Granted, I've been shooting handguns for the better part of 20 years and might not be an expert, but I know what I am doing. They seemed to pay a lot o attention to the women (and rightfully so).

I took mine at some guys house on the bayou in breaux bridge area. estrada tactical. He was a good instructor and very knowledgeable about the laws and such. I was hoping he would let us slide and run thru things as I had been reading up on the laws for many years and was familiar with pistols and safety... but he didnt. I did enjoy the class though and would recommend him to anyone.

Where is an indoor range? I had no idea we had one, guess since I always shoot at the house.

It is actually a very nice range with very nice owners. They also have really good prices on handguns. (I swear I don't work there lol).

MacArthur blvd toward Pineville --->
Exit hwy 1 --->
Turn left as if going to natchitoches --->
Look to your left about 1/2.

How many hours is the CC course in Louisiana? I have been thinking about taking the one in Texas, but 10 hours seems pretty long.

This...

John Loomis is a gunsmith that builds custom firearms and has been a POST firearm instructor for many years. His class was great. Had to shoot over 200+ rounds.

Who was the instructor?

When I last took mine about 4 years ago John Lummus was my instructor and he was great. I did mine thru LSUA though and we did our shooting portion of the test at the Woodworth gun range.

As other mentions he makes you go through a lot of rounds and several situations. He could just make you meet the basics to pass but he had us do the following:

1. Shoot from 15 yards with both hands
2. Shoot from 10 yards with both hands
3. Shoot from 5 yards with both hands
4. Shoot from 15 with just your strong hand
5. Shoot from 15 with just your weak hand
6. Repeat the previous steps with a reload and on the move.

We also did ours in the rain. I remember one of the girls in the class asking if we were really going to shoot in the rain, and he just smiled and he said that was the perfect training conditions.
