Thanks for the update LSUengr that is what I suspected even though I'm hearing decent reports from down there.

What was your opinion on the grass? Does it look like its dying or look like some will make it?

That's my concern Hammer, doesn't take much to kill that grass as high as the salinities got last week, add the river being low and it can wipe out the feed overnight. I'm sure Atch delta got hit hard too.

Capt on top of the the tide still hasn't fallen back to normal. It's been above normal for over two weeks. I will be surprised if we have any feed left. I hope I am wrong. Either way I'll hunt hard down there this year as I always do.

only time will tell, but if the saltwater has sat on the SAVs for this long I have to agree feed will be in isolated pockets at best.

Had a friend down there early last week said the ponds still had plenty feed and saw a decent amt of birds. Def has not helped with productivity at work for sure.

I am not a big plant guy so forgive my ignorance. The bigger plants we have seen more recently, which I think are some type of wild rice, have started to brown and die off. Most of the widgeon grass was still green. Some other stalk like tall grass where we hunted this weekend was still green also. Looked like surge from Patricia may have not done much damage. This is all down off pass a loutre.

The bigger plants are new to the area and are a variety of wild millet.

My biggest concern is what the ducks are eating which are known as submerged aquatics like widgeon grass, coon tail, three corner etc. all of that is VERY sensitive to salt water so if it still looks green that would be outstanding news. My concern would be it got rolled up and taken out of the ponds (which I don't think there has been enough surge to do) or kill the grass by the saltwater burning it here you would see it turning brown and dying. Sounds like that's not the case so that is EXCELLENT news. now we really need a front to push some of the water out!

Thanks for the report!

Thanks for the plant lesson.

Coontail and three corner were present where we hunted. We had coontail wrapped on decoy weights. Both were green. Widgeon grass that I saw green was not in our hunting spot but present along pass a loutre where we fished.

I'm also concerned with salt water in St. Bernard. The water was over Florrisant last week and stayed up way longer than I expected. Hopefully it didn't hit our feed too hard.

Yup, same here. I'm concerned more about warm temps than rain...

Just bringing extra alcohol!

Definitely will be plenty of alcohol just in case we are sitting there watching the lightning. I just hope this high water didn't break a bunch of floats loose. We had around an extra 30+ inches of water in the marsh due to the remnants of Patricia. Going to be my 8 yr olds first duck hunting experience so this should be interesting.

I am worried about getting into my blind in dularge with all this high water. May have to tie up to the side.
