What year?

I wanted one...kinda still do...but I don't want to buy into future problems if I can avoid it...I'm not bashing Ford...never have...I truly hope you have a million mile truck...

So glad I decided to keep my '97 7.3 instead of selling it. Same goes with my '07 gmc lbz. Looked at all these fine new trucks loaded to the max but these new epa regulated diesels scare the crap out of me. I will probably end up driving both of mine til the wheels fall off.

2011.

I've got 45K on it now.

That was my one concern; how the engine would hold up after 100K real-world miles.

Shoot, I used to not buy vehicles 'til they were over a hunnert.

"How much oil does it burn?"
"Not too much, 'bout a quart every 300 miles. An' the battery has at least 50 starts left in it."
"I'll take it. Y'all finance?"

It sucks that you have to hope a $60k truck makes it to 100,000 miles, but that is the norm now. The only things that for sure will make it to 100k are trucks with over 100k already. Everything else is a crapshoot

I'll be in the market for a newer truck next fall...I won't buy new with the EPA crap, and I would be scared of the HP wars getting out of hand and losing even more longevity...

Instead of going for more power, maybe they should eek out every bit of fuel mileage instead...400hp is plenty in a diesel P/U
(that sounded weird just saying that..considering what I've done with my current truck )

Simple solution

Give up and don't buy a diesel if you don't need it.

My shite has been turned down to +40hp since I got it back. It is retarded to think how much power they are capable of making(as much as a big rig). It feels slow as snail snot now, but it hasn't blown up yet

I still can't complain about my 6.4, I got almost 200k before oil cooler broke and I definitely didn't maintain it like I should have.

Mine dynos at 250hp at the rear wheels, and I think the programmer actually added somewhere close to 350hp when it was on +350hp. It was completely undriveable in the rain, and would just smoke the tires every turn. I did not need all of that power

Some people got good life out of it.

It's an odd motor. How you run it and what day of the week they built it matter more than anything.

That, and the internet changed everything.

In other words, problems were outsized relative to the overall number of engines manufactured.

That said, the 6.4 overall, was a poor motor.

The 6.4 is an exception.

The 6.0 gets a lot of bad press when it really wasn't all that bad after 05

The 6.4 was a piece of shite through and through.
